Pip was up on the roof plunking on his guitar, staring up into the stars.

Jesus. Poor Marie. And to think he started this day planning on soaking everyone.

"I take you've never been one for the dashing?"

Nadia raised an eyebrow. "I'm dating Walter, Pip."

"Yes. Captain Dignified," Pip responded.

"He's dashing."

"Oh?"

"You don't believe me?"

Pip shrugged. "Mischevious? Yes. Dignified? Yes. Poised? Sure. There are many adjectives I would used to describe Walter. I'm not sure I'd use dashing, though."

"He's totally dashing!"

"How is he dashing, then?" Pip asked, leaning back a little.

"He totally picked me up and carried me the other day."

"That's considerate," Pip pointed out. "Perhaps romantic. Not dashing."

"It is so dashing! Plus, he's always trying to swoop in and save people."

"Nah, it's romantic. But the swoopping in is dashing, I'll give him that."

"Ha! So there."

"I will concede that he is partially dashing," Pip said. "But not enough to be qualified as a dashing person."

"Pfft. You're just jealous of his naturally dashing demeanor."

"Chere, I'm a French mercenary. That is pretty much as naturally dashing as it gets. He's a British butler. That's about as un-dashing as it gets."

"The British can be very dashing. And being a mercenary doesn't make you dashing."

"Yes, but I happen to be a Britanica Cowboy. Cowboys are dashing."

"Cowboys are usually stinky and a bit rude. We have cowboys in Argentina. And I've met Pete Hutter."

"Britannica cowboy," Pip pointed out. "It's different."

"Britanica. . . . Doesn't that mean you're . . . British?"

"Only to the linguistically foolish," Pip responded. "Besides, the bottom line is that Walter is far too impeccably dressed to be properly dashing."

"Dressing nicely is a big part of being dashing. You can't be dashing while looking like you just woke up. Or like you just fell out of a laundry basket."
