Roof, Sunday Night

Pip was up on the roof plunking on his guitar, staring up into the stars.

Jesus. Poor Marie. And to think he started this day planning on soaking everyone.

"I found one, Pippi says her group found another one. Haven't heard about the third, yet." He peered up at her, impressed by the wings. "Wow. I kinda wish I could do that."

Sakurazaki's head tilted; her resemblance to a bird at that moment was uncanny, perhaps a little creepy. She blinked. "Do what?"

"Fly," Conner replied, kind of intrigued by the bird-like look. "Or . . . do something cool like that again. I mean -- not again. I just wish I could do that."

Sakurazaki frowned a little at the 'again, not again' stumbling. "It's not really all it's cracked up to be," she mused, sounding almost as if she was convincing herself. She sighed heavily, leaning her chin on her drawn-up knee. "It's so tired right now from it...And they don't want to stay hidden today for some reason. When they get like that, they're just terribly itchy, but downright painful today. It's so strange..."

"Yup." Sakurazaki grunted a little, hoping that she didn't sound too rude by it. BUt she was desperately trying to think of how to steer the conversation in a different direction in case questions were asked. This was a bad idea. Why couldn't there have just been no one up here so she could just sit and sulk like she'd planned to?

On the up side, it seemed that, if she was here sulking with other people around, the chances of the usual explosive blow-out with Ranma seemed to be lessened drastically...

Conner was familiar with evasive conversational maneuvers, so he (quite agreeably, he thought) readily dropped the subject. "No classes tomorrow either? It's pretty late to be out."

"Not tomorrow, no," Sakurazaki seemed to relax a little. "But, even so, I don't usually sleep much, and I took a nap after some of the searching. Flying around like I did is pretty tiring."

"Especially in the summer, I bet. I know I'm pretty beat from just running around all day." Conner kicked off his shoes and wiggled his toes a bit. "Lucky for me, I don't have a class until Tuesday afternoon. I'm trying to put off the whole first-day-of-school thing as long as I can."

"Literature in Action, and then the class on Humor's Contribution to our Well-Being right after that," Conner said. "Other than that, I'll be in World Religions, Hunting 101 -- that should be fun -- and Applied Science. Which I got recruited to TA for. Me, of all people. A science TA. My friend Ethan's gonna laugh so hard at me."

"There were a lot of choices. The Spying class sounds like a lot of fun." Conner considered, his face scrunching up a bit. "Not really my thing, personally, but it sounds like fun. "Wishing I'd taken Energy and Fitness, though."
