Roof, Sunday Night

Pip was up on the roof plunking on his guitar, staring up into the stars.

Jesus. Poor Marie. And to think he started this day planning on soaking everyone.

Walter nodded. "Definitely. What else? Health insurance and a pension?"

"That's a good one." Walter nodded. "A very good one."

Walter may have been making mental notes against the future the vampire had hinted at. Just in case he ever actually did hire Pip.

"The future. Did I tell you that Arthur signed me up for the prophecy class?"

"Maybe to teach me about it being a bad idea to muck about with the future. I don't really know. With Arthur, it could just be that that was the class his dart hit."

Walter didn't mention the thought that crossed his mind that Pip just might at that.

"He's a very strange man and he likes teasing me far too much." But he had seen the potential that Alucard had pointed out and taken him in.

"I complain about him, but without him, I would have nothing."

"About four years ago. He took me in when Alucard brought me to him. Arranged training and tutors and even Fandom."

And for Arthur, he'd jump out of a plane behind enemy lines. He bitched about him, but it was almost as superficial as Arthur's mindless hedonist act.

"I'm not sure that 'good' is the right word for him," Walter said slowly. "But he's the best man for the job right now."
