5th Floor Common Room - evening

Since she's now afraid of her computer-- at least until someone explains how not to find pornography to her-- and Mrs. Gilmore told her to watch television, Evie has decided to do her homework.

She is currently watching a rerun of Crime & Justice. It's not entirely clear to her how it works, but it's definitely fascinating.

Evie's eyes widened. "Good god. You don't put giant rocks painted with *scenery* in front of a moving train!" She took a breath, then smiled. "Oh. How droll. Very funny."

"What's funny about it?"

"Well, you almost had me believing..." Evie trailed off, then blinked. "You derail trains?"

"If that's what I've got to do,"

"But, but," Evie flailed, losing the couch cushion, far too overwhelmed to notice, "That's Wrong! And Illegal! And, and, very very harmful to people on the train, and-- why would you *do* that?!"

"It's fun!"

"Ah!" Evie hit him with the couch cushion, outraged. "You, you, fiend! That's utterly despicable!"

"Despicable? When a group of young men taunt their classmate for a simple oversight in his clothing choice for that day, that's despicable. Takin' advantage of the oversights and shortsightedness of those who are financially more stable is just good business."

"While I utterly and completely agree with you on your first point," Evie said firmly, "I have to take exception to your second! How is it shortsighted to board a train, and expect that it should reach its destination, instead of being smashed into tiny pieces by a giant boulder in its way?!"

"Everybody knows that transportation is better when it's got a brain of its own."

"I-- what?" Evie blinked at him, then cautiously asked, "Was it some form of political protest on behalf of camels and donkeys and horses, then? I can rather see that. Blair was telling me about protests just this week. It still sounds *awfully* dangerous, though."

"Political protest? I was libertatin' some . . . friends and items."

"Ohhhh, you were rescuing them," Evie said. Because if he were a criminal, he wouldn't be here at school, would he? "That's entirely different. Though you might have thought of the innocent people on that train, really. I'm certain they were very inconvenienced. And frightened. Possibly upset!"

"Yeah, what of it?"

"It's Wrong!" Pete should be able to hear the capitals Evie puts on that. "Even if you were rescuing fellow comrades-in-arms!"

"Wrong things happen, darlin'. That's the way of the planet."

Evie spluttered. She flailed. And then she whapped him with the pillow again. "Reprehensible, as well! And I am NOT your darlin'!"

Pete spluttered right back. "Would you cut that out?!"

Evie glared at him, then folded her arms over her chest again. "You, sir, have the moral fiber of an unshaven walnut."

"Why the hell would you shave a walnut?"

"I wouldn't, but if I did, there would be more fiber in it than in you." Evie knows she's not making sense. The turning red is probably a giveaway to that.

Pete leaned over and spat. "Well, you have fun with that, darlin'."

"Eeuuuuugh." Evie pulled her feet up off the floor and glared at Pete again. "I am not darlin'. And your manners are also lacking, Mr. Hutter."

"Ain't nothin' wrong with my manners!"
