Third Floor Common Room, Friday Afternoon

WIth no classes today, the twins lounged in the common room. Hikaru was eatting popcorn and watching the Z FIles while Kaoru sat to the side, making what must have sounded like strange barking as he looked over his Cross Species Communications vocabulary packet.

"What the hell do . . ." Pete decided to try out his new slang. "chicks have to do with this?"

"Girls have a lot to do with a discussion of manners with you," Walter said, frowning more at the slang. "Since my girlfriend tells me yours are terrible."

"Yeah, who the hell is your chickyfriend?"

"Nadia Santos. About this," he held up a hand, "tall, dark hair, Argentine accent, very pretty." If Pete had noticed any of those things other than the last.

"She the one who wanted a menajay troy?"

Walter's first thought was, how did you know about that? But with this guy? No chance.

"I quite doubt that."

"Don' know her, then. But there was this chick who looked just like that who seemed to like that three-way, kinky stuff."

"With an accent?"

"Sounded Mexican or somethin'."

"Argentine," Walter corrected. "She definitely wasn't proposing a menage a trois with you."

"As I recall, you were not present for the conversation."

"I don't need to have been there to know she didn't."

"Then maybe this was some other Mexican chick!"

"Argentine, and as far as I know she'd be the only one. And she told me she'd met you and not in a good way."

"Yeah, well, women like that ought to be shown where their place is. Either up on a stage in a corset or in the kitchen with no shoes."

Walter glared. Pete was very lucky Nadia had told him not to beat on the idiot.

Pete stared impassively back.

"Let's get one thing very clear between us," Walter grated out. "If you continue to speak that way of Nadia, you and I will have problems."

Pete stared back at Walter for a moment longer, then slowly nodded. "Alright. Man's got a right to defend his Mexican chick, I suppose,"

Better. Walter nodded back and turned his attention back to his books, pointedly ignoring Pete to avoid starting a brawl in the common room. Not that he expected it would last very long.

It didn't.

"Still, you let her know that I ain't the type of man who's into that sort of thing. Least ways not with another man."

Walter put his pen down with a hard snap and tried to remind himself again that Nadia had told him the beating would be better coming from a girl.

"I'm telling you one last time that she was not propositioning you for anything. She thinks you're slimy, and I have to agree with her." Which wasn't precisely what she'd said, but was close enough for Walter.

"Slimy? She was comparin' me to a slug or snail or some other manner of creature that crawls through the grass and likes the rain? Seems to me I might not be the only one around here who might need to work on his or her manners. If a simple misunderstandin', perfectly reasonable, should the conversation in question be reviewed, can lead to an individual being likened to some sort of invertebrate thing, then perhaps this modernified culture is not all it is cracked up to be!"

Nice try at deflection. Walter wasn't buying it. "Based on your behavior, I would prefer to keep company with a slug, and can't see where Nadia's estimation was at all off target."

"Then why don't you just go find yourself a slug and leave us decent folk alone?"
