Third Floor Common Room, Friday Afternoon

WIth no classes today, the twins lounged in the common room. Hikaru was eatting popcorn and watching the Z FIles while Kaoru sat to the side, making what must have sounded like strange barking as he looked over his Cross Species Communications vocabulary packet.

Carmela wanders in to the common room, idly flipping through the packet on Canine. Which she was still mentally referring to as "Cyene", no matter what the actual package said the language was called.

"Hello, people!"

Kaoru noticed the packet. "Ah, you looking over the vocabulary too?"

Carmela nods. "Never hurts to be prepared."

"I find it pretty tough..I'm not used to such strange sounds." He keeps looking through the packet.

"Languages are sort of my specialty," Carmela says with a grin. "So I'm not too worried."

"Funny, I'm pretty good at languages too. But I was talking to Walter and there re so many things we can't do that animals can..." He flips a page. "So what other languages do you know?"

"Japanese, Spanish, and the Speech," Carmela ticks these off on her fingers. "So far. I'm working on Russian."

Nods in approval. //Japanese is my native language.// But I also speak French and obviously English."

"I grew up speaking Spanish and English at home," Carmela tells Kaoru. "Maybe you can help me out when I decide to start learning French."

"Sure, if you'll give me help in Russian. I've always been interested in learning that one." He grins.

"Deal," Carmela says with a nod and a thumbs-up.

Walter looked up from his own perusal of the vocabulary and smiled. "Hello."

"Hey, Walter!" Carmela looks up and gives a cheerful wave, before flopping down on a couch. "Seems we all had a similar idea."

Pup ran over to greet Carmela, bouncing around her feet delightedly.

Walter nodded and tapped his pen on the page. "I assume Miss Poppins will be holding me to a higher standard as her TA, so I thought I would get a good start on this."

"Hey there," Carmela coos at Pup, leaning down to pat him. "The only dog I ever spoke to, he used the Speech. So I wanted to get a headstart on learning the actual language of dogs."

Pup wagged and twisted to lick her hand. This was so much fun with all these people to give him attention.

"Was that the Ponch you told me about?" Walter asked, smiling at Pup's antics.

"Yeah, that'd be the one," Carmela says with a nod. "Oooh, puppy-smooches," she grins at Pup, "just what I needed after a week of school."

Pup was willing to oblige with as many puppy smooches as Carmela could stand without any sign of slowing down in his hyperactive affections.

"Feel free to stop by my room any time you need Pup love," Walter offered. "It's good for him to be affectionate."

"I'll do that," Carmela says. "In case you haven't noticed, I'm a bit of a dog person."

"I'm just down the hall in 303. My roommate is Alphonse Elric and he has a cute cat named Cuddles. You can get all sorts of furry affection there." And here is where we give thanks that Walter is completely unaware of Furries.

Carmela just blinks and gives Walter an odd look. He didn't just say what she thought he did, did he?

Walter caught the odd look and thought back over the last few things he'd said.
