Having nothing better to do, Carmela was sprawled on a couch in the common room, channel surfing. Not so unusual.

What *was* unusual was the *way* she was doing it. The remote sat off to the side, untouched, and the TV was apparently changing channels on its own, every time Carmela said "No."

[ooc: a note about the Speech. It's in italics, and since it's the language of *everything*, your character will most likely hear whatever's being said as in their native language. If they listen especially carefully or have an ear for languages, they might be able to tell there's something unusual about it, though.]

Angela paused by the common room on her way back from her visit home, and blinked at the TV that seemed to be changing on a voice command.

She was definitely back home.

She set her bag in the corner and went to investigate. "Hey Carmela, are you making the TV do that?"

"Not making, precisely," Carmela shrugs. "But TVs are really very agreeable when they're not being bossed around by the remote. You've just gotta know how to ask."

"Okay," Conner says, poking his head in. "You sound like me watching Abaranger."

"Really?," Angela said, curious.

She took a seat next to Carmela. "Um, louder. Please," she told the TV.

Angela shot a grin at the new-ish kid. "Conner, right?"

Summer wandered into the common room and waved. "Hi."

"That's me," he confirmed with a friendly smile as he walked in and plopped down onto a couch. "And you're . . . Angela?"

Hello, hot new girl. "Hey there," Conner greeted the new girl, a toothy grin nearly splitting his face in half.

"Well, in the Speech," Carmela amends. "Louder," she says, and the television obliges.

Angela would hear English, but possibly with an undertone of something... unusual, to it.

"Exactly," Angela said. "I've been really bad about meeting people, sorry."

Angela blinked, surprised to see the girl she had so briefly lived next to again.

Then she realized it might well not be the same person. "Hi ... this might sound kind of strange, but did you go here last fall?"

Carmela laughs and turns to face Conner. "Abaranger? I'm more of an anime girl, but I've caught an episode or two of that. Didn't seem too bad."

Summer grinned back. "Are you a new student, too?"

Angela scrunched her forehead, listening intently. "I have no idea how that worked, but it was cool. That was English but ... not quite?"

"Hey Summer!" Carmela waves.

"Oh, no, that was a...different me," Summer said, feeling weird for even saying that.

"The Speech," Carmela says. "It's the language that wizards use, back home. *Everything* understands it."

Rory came in and observed for a moment, before asking, "Are you doing that on purpose?"

"Hi Carmela, how are you?" Summer asked curiously.

"Bored," Carmela admits. "There's nothing good on!" she adds with a pout. The television switches to a children's show. "Oh, very funny." She rolls her eyes at the TV, which changes channels again.

"Yeah-huh," Carmela nods.

"That ... happens here," Angela said, feeling weird for having brought it up. "I'm Angela. Good to meet you." She manages not to tack on the "again."

Angela glanced up. "Hey. See, I came back and everything."

"So you can talk to anything?," Angela asked. "Is there a down side to it?"
