Third Floor Common Room [Saturday Evening]

Having nothing better to do, Carmela was sprawled on a couch in the common room, channel surfing. Not so unusual.

What *was* unusual was the *way* she was doing it. The remote sat off to the side, untouched, and the TV was apparently changing channels on its own, every time Carmela said "No."

[ooc: a note about the Speech. It's in italics, and since it's the language of *everything*, your character will most likely hear whatever's being said as in their native language. If they listen especially carefully or have an ear for languages, they might be able to tell there's something unusual about it, though.]

Angela scrunched her forehead, listening intently. "I have no idea how that worked, but it was cool. That was English but ... not quite?"

"The Speech," Carmela says. "It's the language that wizards use, back home. *Everything* understands it."

"So you can talk to anything?," Angela asked. "Is there a down side to it?"

"Well, it's impossible to lie using the Speech, but I don't know if that's a *down* side, exactly."

"Yeah, you can just swap out of it if you have to lie," Angela nodded. "Is it just for wizards?"

"No," Carmela shakes her head. "I mean, I am totally *not* a wizard, thank you. Some whole planets, where wizards don't have to be secret like they are on Earth, it's their main method of communication."

"So there are whole planets where Wizards don't lie?," Angela said. "That's pretty cool. How'd you learn it?"

"My brother, his best friend, and her little sister are all wizards." Carmela says. "So I sort of just... picked it up. Got tired of them being the ones who got to have all the fun."

"I get that," Angela said. "I'm not sure what I would do if my sister turned into a wizard. Probably tell my parents to send her here when she gets to ninth grade."

Carmela snickers. "Actually, now that I think about it, them being wizards could very well be the reason the brochure for this place just mysteriously turned up in the mail."

"I think this place has a weird way of bringing people here," Angela said. "LIke, my parents were separating and they decided things would be easier with me away from home." She shrugged. "They're back together now."
