Third Floor Common Room, Saturday Morning

It was cool and rainy, so Dawn was using her Saturday morning to do her homework--she had to read Jane Eyre and learn Dolphin by the beginning of next week. She stretched out facedown on the floor, swinging her feet above her, and humming as she listened to the radio. She nibbled occasionally on some *fingerwiggle* buttery toast as she read.

She was in a really good mood, homework notwithstanding.

Weiss wandered in, maybe a little nervous about his upcoming three hour tour minute dates. He sat on the couch and looked at Dawn. "How's it going? I'm Eric Weiss, by the way."

Dawn looked up from her book and smiled, "Hi, Eric. I'm Dawn--I think we have Prophecy class together. Are you new, or am I just that bad at paying attention?"

"No, you're still a bastion of awareness. I'm a noob," Eric said. "Which means you're probably not."

"Kinda in between. I got here at the beginning of the summer, so I was here for the mummies and jell-o dragons, but missed the zombies and the snow monsters," Dawn said. "You liking it here okay? And are you from somewhere with associated strange, or is this all new and big with the brain-breaky?"

"Yes with the new and big. Brain breakage has been minimal. I've been lucky enough to avoid seeing anything weirder than a zombie band, although I've heard a lot." Weiss shrugged. "My guess is that I'm in for some sort of major trauma. I can live with that."

"Went to Caritas, huh?" Dawn asked. "And I hope you don't get the major trauma, because that usually ends in a trip to the clinic, but you seem really calm about it. Um, why?"

"Because I can't stop it? I'm not gonna freak out about something that hasn't happened yet. If something happens, it happens. If it doesn't, well, maybe that's not such a good thing. Seems like Fandom's a package. Gotta take the bad with the good, or the good won't be nearly as cool."

"Wow, you're well-adjusted," Dawn said, impressed. "What made you come here?"

"College transcripts. Need them to look good and a year at a private... I'm not fooling anyone. Coed dorms."

"Yeah, those are nice." She laughed. "You would have loved my house last year--it was just my friend Xander, this guy Andrew, and about twenty butt-kicking girls from different countries."

Weiss took a moment. Then he took another for the other 10 girls. "I... I have nothing I can say that won't sound chauvinistic or like it's from a bad porno. Must've been nice for Xander and Andrew."

"I'm not sure Andrew was that impressed."

"Really? Can't imagine why." Weiss thought about his broadcast the previous night. "Never mind. Got it."

"Yeah," she nodded, "and it's probably for the best. One of the other girls would have shoved him through a door, or a wall, or a window, or left him outside as vampire bait, or something, if he'd been a pain that way."

"Vampire bait? So the whole buttkicking thing was less in a 'strong-willed high school girls' way and more of a survival thing? Are you also of the butt-kicking persuasion?"

"Oh, they're really strong-willed high school and college girls, but they're also big into survival." She blushed slightly, then admitted, "I'm not really a butt-kicker yet, since I'm still learning--I'm more the book geek variety."

"So, what do you like to do?"

Dean wandered in, drawn by the sound of the radio as he'd being going past. "Hey. No Buffy puppy this morning?"

"She didn't seem enthusiastic about the idea of watching me do homework," Dawn said, "so she's taking a nap until the weather clears up and we go for a walk. Or she may play with Vladdie, depending."

"A vampire puppy playing with a vampire slayer puppy. You might not want to be thowing any sticks for them just in case." He sat down on the floor beside her, leaning back against the bottom part of the couch. "Whatcha working on?"

Dean looked at the kid on the couch. "Don't think we've met. I'm Dean Winchester."

"Hey! How are you?" Lavender grinned at him.

"Buffy's happier chasing shoes anyway. Which reminds me that I need new flip-flops," Dawn giggled, "and I'm reading Jane Eyre and trying to learn Dolphin by Monday. What about you? Big plans for today?"
