Fifth Floor Common Room, Sunday Afternoon

Bel had learned about football last fall. Now he was pleased it was football season once again. So he'd taken over the fifth floor common room and was camped out with snacks and drinks to watch the games that afternoon. Right now it was the New England Patriots versus the New York Jets.

He picked the Patriots to root for. No reason.

"Since August," Schrodinger said. "I'm one of the newer students. You?"

"The same," Luke said. "But I've seen gremlins!"

"You have?" Schrodinger asked, displaying a level of curiosity generally only attainable by cats. "What do they look like? And do they really make people hallucinate by biting them?"

"They were putting on a play when I saw them," Luke said. "They were about this tall--" he put his hand a short distance from the floor, "--and kind of greenish. One was wearing leather pants. And they really do make people hallucinate. I've heard some stories."

"Really? From who?" Schrodinger asked. "You can't believe everything you hear, ya know."

"Rory wouldn't lie to me," Luke said confidently.

"Really? Who's Rory?" Schrodinger asked.

"About so tall," Luke said, holding his hand up, "brown hair, blue eyes." He smiled. "My father's old girlfriend and if that's not a Fandom-induced headache, I don't know what could be."

"Huh. So you're sure that the girl your father dumped or maybe dumped your father wouldn't lie to you?" Schrodinger asked. "Seems kind of odd."

Luke's mind didn't work that way. "She wouldn't," he replied. "Other people have told me about them, too, but Rory I believe."

"Well... just go with me here as a hypothetical situation," Schrodinger said. "Rory used to date your dad, right? But she doesn't anymore. Then your dad went and had you with your mom. So either your dad dumped Rory or Rory dumped your dad. If Rory dumped your dad, there must have been something she didn't like about him. If your dad dumped Rory and then went off to have you with your mom, I'd bet Rory would be kind of hurt about that. I don't know if she's the type who'd take a grudge out on someone's father on their kid. But I'm just saying it's possible."

Luke's eyes were troubled. "I suppose it is," he said. "I'd never really thought about it that way."

Schrodinger shrugged. "But then again, I don't know her. It's bad science to just go off of hearsay. Especially when the source might be biased. That's what the Professor always told me."

"Who's the Professor?" Luke asked.

"They also call him "The Doctor" or "Doc"," Schrodinger replied. "He's the guy who made me."

"Made you?" Luke blinked. "Like a clone or something?"

"Chimera," Schrodinger said. "Or a construct. I think cloning was used in my creation, but I'm not exactly a clone."

"Yeah, it kind of was from what I understand. Doc's crazy smart."

"Eventually it gets to the point where you just can't tell the difference," Schrodinger said.
