Fifth Floor Common Room, Sunday Afternoon

Bel had learned about football last fall. Now he was pleased it was football season once again. So he'd taken over the fifth floor common room and was camped out with snacks and drinks to watch the games that afternoon. Right now it was the New England Patriots versus the New York Jets.

He picked the Patriots to root for. No reason.

"How?" Schrodinger asked.

"I have a soul," Bel said.

"How did that happen?" Schrodinger asked, edging closer to Bel and making an odd motion with his wrist.

"Born with it," Bel said. "I'm part human, too."

"So a soul makes you good, then?" Schrodinger asked.

"Not automatically," Bel said. "Plenty of people with souls are evil. But it gives me a choice."

"Makes sense," Schrodinger said. "Does your demon side draw you towards evil? Is it a harder choice?"

Bel nodded. "Yeah, it's rough sometimes. Demon instincts aren't good ones."

"So what else can you do?" Schrodinger asked.

"Throw fireballs, do magic," Bel said. "I got some crude TK, too." He wondered if he should be talking so casually about his powers to someone he didn't really know, but mentally shrugged. Not anything anyone could find out asking around.

Or anything he didn't already know because they had a test tube of him back home.

But that's another story entirely.

"Why are you good if it's so hard for you?"

"Because I want to be good," Bel said. "All the stuff I've done in the past is wrong, and I want to make up for it."

"Ah. Redemption. An interesting reason. What drove you to redeem yourself then?"

"Learning to be human at this place," Bel said. "And Phoebe. My girlfriend."

"Oh, she's my big sister," Schrodinger said. "A good witch or something."

"That's her," Bel said. "That's my Phoebe."
