Evie had finally found something on the television that looked both familiar and interesting: Out of Africa Leaving the Dark Continent. She had a big bowl of popcorn and was watching Karin and Bror during World War I.

Really, that Dennys was more interesting though.

Bel began to wonder if he'd pushed Anders too far. "Uh, anything I can do?" he said awkwardly.

Anders rolled his eyes, but shot Bel a surprised, grateful glance. "Not unless you know anything that'll keep me from having frakked-up dreams."

Bel scratched his head. "I know a few dream demons, but they mostly specialize in giving the bad dreams," he said. "I dunno, maybe a spell?"

"Huh. Don't know if I want to risk that." Anders rubbed a hand over his face again. "'sides, it's not so much the dreams freaking me out as it is what I think they're trying to tell me."

"Want to talk about it?" Bel offered.

Anders blinked. "Seriously?"

"Sure," Bel said.

Anders laughed quietly. "Mostly I have these dreams about me in the future, leading some kind of resistance or something like that. Last night was different though. I was, like, covered in blood and trying to find somebody, like I was going to die of starvation if I didn't find them." He shook his head. "It made more sense at the time. It's starting to get fuzzy."

"Huh," Bel said. "I don't know about interpreting dreams, but it sounds like you're looking for something you need."

Anders bit his lip. "Or maybe I'm looking for something I just think I need."

Bel nodded. "So if you have the dream again, walk away, stop looking. See what happens."

"In the dream, you mean?" asked Anders, tilting his head slightly in confusion.

"Yeah, in the dream," Bel said. "Control it, don't let it control you."

"I guess I could try that," Anders said dubiously. "You ever had to deal with anything like that before?"

"Used to have bad dreams all the time," Bel admitted.

"Huh." Anders rubbed the bridge of his nose and processed that bit of information. "Did it work for you?"

Bel hesitated. "I gave in to them," he said. "And you know where that got me."

Well, that was a sobering thought. "Oh. Yeah, that would . . . yeah." Anders whistled. "Wish I could just figure out if I'm being warned about something. Isn't your subconscious supposed to do that sometimes?"

"Yeah, sometimes," Bel said. "Does anybody try to talk to you in the dream? Can you hear them?"

Anders shook his head slowly. "Not this time. The other weird dreams I've had, there's been a lot of talking. This time the only person talking was me."

"Maybe you should stop talking and listen?" Bel said. He shrugged. "I dunno, I'm no expert. Maybe you could pull someone into your dream to help you."

"Hi, I'm an idiot." Anders slapped himself in the forehead. "Why didn't I just talk to Mister Phale after class or something?"

Bel grinned. "Grab him his next office hours or something. Or just call him up, he's pretty cool."

"I might have to do that. Lords know it wouldn't be the first time he helped talk me through a tough spot," Anders said thoughtfully.

"Go for it," Bel said. Then he snickered. "A demon is advising you to go to an angel. Go figure."
