The gym, Friday morning

Aeryn is in the gym a little early, mostly because she wants to get the feel of the new gloves before anything else. She slips them on, practices making a fist until she's comfortable with it, then tries them out wth a hit to the punching bag. They take some getting used to, but they're really not bad. She can continue to test them out until Luke arrives.

Jamie entered the gym, giving Aeryn a friendly wave, and proceeded to start the gathering up of all things garbage.

Aeryn gives him a wave back before going back to her workout. For a minute. Then she's watching Jamie and frowning.

Jamie looks up from his work to see Aeryn looking at him. "Yes?"

"What are you doing?" she asks.

"Making the world a prettier place." Jamie said flatly. "And you?"

"Waiting for Luke," she says. "The gym needs to be pretty?"

"Everything has to be pretty," Jamie groaned. "That is now my assignment in life. To make things beautiful."

"How did you get that new assignment in life?" asks Aeryn, trying not to be amused.

"Trying to be nice to our Ethics teacher," Jamie grumbled. "What kind of person doesn't enjoy thoughtful gifts, helpful suggestions, hugs and Klondike bars?"

Luke came into the gym a few minutes later. "Good morning!" he said before beginning to warm up.

"One day I'll stop wanting to ask why you're so cheerful in the morning," she greets him.

Luke grinned. "I don't have to head out to fix vaporator equipment. That's a reason enough to smile."

Aeryn smiles back a little. "Not a fan of tech work?"

"Oh, I like the mechanics of it," Luke said. "I just didn't like the 'standing out under two suns fixing the same damn thing' part."

"Ah. I can definitely see your point there," says Aeryn, shuddering a little.

Luke nodded. "Exactly." He glanced down at Aeryn's gloves. "Will I need a pair of those today?"

"It wouldn't be a bad idea," she says, nodding towards the lockers. "There are a few pairs in there, if you'd like."

Without the regular practices for football, basketball, wrestling, and whatever other sport Jim's father decided was necessary for his son to star in at the moment, Jim was feeling like he was getting lazy. Seeing someone on the bag, he nodded 'hello' before starting to stretch.

Aeryn gives a nod back, finishing her punch to the bag. "I don't think I've seen you here before," she says.

"I'd be surprised if you had," he replied with a grin. "Seeing as I haven't been. Jim Ellison."

"Aeryn Sun," she says. "One of the new people, right?" It's possible she's missed someone in the last year.

He ducked his head in a nod. "Yeah."

She nods and says, "Welcome to the gym."

"Thanks. I think."

"It's probably the most normal place in the dorms, if that helps you make up your mind at all," she tells him.
