Second Floor Common Room, Friday Afternoon (Lunch and Onward)

So open flame was a bad idea -- cooking workshop had pretty much proved that -- but Anders was in the mood for burgers. And, after his conversation with Walter yesterday, also in the mood to attempt being a little more social, for a little while at least. Compensating a bit for all the food he'd scrounged from everybody else seemed like a good idea, too.

This would explain the stacks of burger patties (he'd even picked up some Gardenburgers) in the fridge, and piles of hamburger buns on the counter. He even made a little space for the cheese slices. And it would also explain the smell of grilling burgers that was coming from the stove, where Anders was standing over the frying pan with a spatula.

ETA: And Anders is very quiet now as I'm off for the weekend -- but feel free to mod a burger or ten.]

Jamie walked in with a bunch of garbage bags and gave Anders an evil eye.

"You better not be making a mess."

"Okay, garbage in the kitchen is gross," Anders said. He would've shaken the spatula at Jamie, but that would get grease everywhere and earn him even more of an evil eye. "I'll clean up after myself, okay?"

"All right. But if there's a mess I'm coming after you," Jamie replied.

He then grabbed all the trash around the room and headed off.

Cameron followed his nose. "I smell meat."

"What every growing boy needs, if you ask me," Anders said from the stove. "Burger, Mitchell? There's cheese and ketchup and all that other stuff in the fridge."

"I'm not going to say no to that," Cameron said, grabbing some buns and moving beside Anders. "Load them up!"

"Comin' right up!" Anders flipped some freshly-cooked burgers off the frying pan onto the buns. "How's Joan doing?"

"Good," Cameron smiled right away at the mention of his swoopbike. "I didn't have time to take her for a ride this morning, but she was looking good when I checked up on her."

"She better be, as good care of her as you take." Anders took a break from grilling to pile up a couple of burgers with the works for himself -- lots of cheese and ketchup and onions. "Kinda makes me want a ride of my own -- nothing quite as fast as that, though."

Cameron considered it while pouring a royal amount of ketchup on his hamburger. "You should talk to Sam. She's pretty good with engines and if you can get your hands on a less modern model, she could probably make it all new and shiny."

"I did talk to her about that a while ago," Anders agreed, wiping ketchup off from around his mouth. "But you guys have got the market cornered on bikes. Maybe something a little different . . . but I don't know what, yet."

"It looks like they now have vespas in the garage that you can use," Cameron said. "Or you know, you could try a BMX."

Anders gave him a weird look. "Okay, I didn't quite mean that slow, but I'll probably take one of the Vespas for a spin sometime soon, just 'cause."

"A go-kart then?" Cameron suggested next before takign a huge bite from his burger.

"You don't think a go-kart will attract Jell-O dragons, do you?"

"If it does, let me know with ample warning so I can prepare the wrestling," Cameron wondered why that particular subject seemed to be following him around lately. Not that he minded it.

"Depends on who's gonna be doing the wrestling," Anders said. He flattered himself that he'd said it slyly.

"I could say names, but somehow I think it will end me dateless for Homecoming and that'd be a shame," Cameron sighed.

"That would definitely be a shame," agreed Anders. "Me, I don't think I'm gonna go at all."

Cameron frowned. "Why not?"

"Just . . . don't really feel like it, that's all," Anders said evasively. "Plus my player might be AFK most of that weekend anyway."

"I get that. I didn't feel like going to prom either, but I did have fun with Sam in the end," Cameron replied.

"If I go," Anders said after another couple of bites of his burger, "I'll probably go by myself. Think I need to, I don't know, learn how to be alone for a while."

Cameron nodded. "I know the feeling. I just apparently... really suck at it."

"Is there cooking going on or just me imagining good smells?" Peter asked with a grin as he came into the Common Room. "Afternoon, Anders."

"There is definitely cooking going on," Anders called over his shoulder. "It's not quite Luke's, but have yourself a burger, Pevensie."

"Thank you," Peter said, helping himself. "How's it going?"

"It's Friday, I have food, I'm not complaining." It was, he felt, a reasonably accurate and non-whiny answer. "How're things with you?"

"Sounds reasonable," Peter agreed. "And it's the weekend as long as sharks don't attack out of the ocean." He grinned. "It's actually really good."

"Good to hear." Anders flipped another burger. "I think I'm just gonna take it easy this weekend, do a little thinking -- which doesn't hurt me, in case you've heard otherwise," he added with a quick grin.

Peter laughed. "I'd never think such a thing of course. It seems like a sound plan." He took a bite of the burger. "This is really good. Thank you."

"No problem! More where that came from, man. Have as many as you want." Anders indicated the sizable stack of cooked burgers and turned his attention to the sizzling patties still cooking as his mun ran out the door, eek.
