After finishing her homework for the week, Dawn went to the common room and decided to indulge herself. She had a bowl of rainbow sherbet and was flipping through channels.

Oooh, kittens! Or, well, lions, but baby ones. She watched happily, although an occasional "awww, kitty..." escaped.

Buffy was looking for someone to attack beg plead convince to go with her to the dance. But if she couldn't find that, then kittens were totally a good substitute. "Oh my god, how cuuuute!"

Dawn grinned and waved. "Aren't they? I kind of want to take one home, until I remember that they eat people. There's sherbet."

After the assembly and realizing he'd been reclusive this week, Ray wandered down to the common room.

He waved at the others.

Dawn waved back. "Hi! Ray, right?"

Buffy ploped down next to her. "Yay, sherbet." She lowered her voice. "Dawn? I need a date. I was a puppy, I don't know the gossip. Give me gossip." She sounded very intense about it.

Buffy waved back vaguely.

"Yep," Ray said and nodded. "How's it going?"

"Don't think we've met yet," Ray said. "I'm Ray from Chicago. I haven't seen any of the weird things at this school yet but I've heard about them."

Dawn frowned, seeing the problem. "I don't know much. Is there anyone you're interested in? Maybe we could go that way?"

"I'm Buffy. I was a puppy the last two weeks," she added wryly.

"Lion cubs are on!" Dawn pointed at the television, bouncing a little. "What's going on with you? You excited about the dance?"

Buffy pondered. "I guess Sam's out of the question..."

Dawn grimaced. "Er, about that...."

"Considering I just realized that the school was having a dance?" He shrugged. "Not really."

"Really?" Ray laughed. "How'd that work out for you?"

Dawn glanced over at Buffy. Hmmm. "Are you anti-dance?"

Buffy looked hopeful. "Yeah? Do you know something?"

Buffy considered it. "Not too bad, except from licking people in public."

"No," Ray said. "I just didn't know about it. Spent my week ignoring things, I guess."

"Must've been fun for them," Ray quipped.

"Long week," he said and shrugged. "Spent it sleeping and in class."

Buffy was starting to suspect she might not want to know this. But still she asked, "Okay, what do you know? Speak."

"Embarrassing for me," Buffy pointed out, but she was grinning a little.
