The Roof, Sunday Night

Dawn dragged her CD player up to the roof, plugged it in over by Bel's plants, and let loose--spinning and twirling and basically dancing like no one was watching--because they weren't. The music at the dance had been great, but Dawn was feeling the serious need to boogie to something from the latter half of the century.

Sometimes there was just no place for joy and happiness to go but out.

[ooc: Post is open to all--bring your own music and be a dancing fool!]

"Oh, that's lovely! Congratulations!" Evie clapped her hands and bounced, then started to spin again as "It's Raining Men" came on. "How long have you known him?" she asked over the music. "And how long has he been your boyfriend?"

Evie almost spun into the balustrade with that information. "Ohmigosh. Isn't that, well, um. Oh my. Rather, that is to say..." She looked a little pink and breathless. "Very daring? Goodness!"

Evie turned more red. "Won't someone think you and Sam are being-- um, improper, if you date your roommate? Won't you get in trouble? I think it's terribly romantic, but I don't think *I* could do it."

Evie was still trying to get her brain to focus on how it could be *more* improper not to date the boy you're living with, but Dawn's giggling distracted her enough that she stopped dancing. "You're not romantic?" she asked in surprise. "But it sounds like it to me. Close quarters, and a magic Island, and... well, it just does!"

Evie blinked, then giggled again. "That's very sweet. I suppose no one really thinks their romance is the most romantic. Unless they're pirates and ninjas and princesses and chosen warriors, then I suppose they can't help it." She took a breath and spun around, saying, "I always thought it would romantic to kidnapped by a Bedouin prince."

"Well yes, but you just have to know how to dress for it. I spent most of my life in Cairo. One does get used to it, given enough time." She sighed. "Of course, you'd want to be First Wife, not one of the concubines. That's never as fun."

"Well, if he professes Islam, four." Evie shook her head. "That is, if he's rich enough and can treat them all nicely. If he's not Muslim, then some of the bedouin tribesman can have as many as couple dozen. King Abdul-Aziz ibn-Saud had at least twenty-two wives and forty-seven sons. Most only have two or so, though. More trouble than it's worth to have more. Women can divorce their husbands, though, most of the time, and just walk back to their parents if they don't like their husband."

"Well, he was a sheikh, and a lot of them were diplomatic marriages, and it's possible they weren't... that is to say.. ummmmm..." Evie blushed scarlet. "Some of them might have been in name only, is the thing."

"It keeps everyone related and on the same side, in the clans. But yes." Evie was just back to pink now. "Rather a lot. Which is why it's just a romantic ideal, not something I'd probably like in real life."
