The Roof, Sunday Night

Dawn dragged her CD player up to the roof, plugged it in over by Bel's plants, and let loose--spinning and twirling and basically dancing like no one was watching--because they weren't. The music at the dance had been great, but Dawn was feeling the serious need to boogie to something from the latter half of the century.

Sometimes there was just no place for joy and happiness to go but out.

Evie had been feeling very, very fragile for most of yesterday because of the spiked punch, but she'd remembered what Jack had said about not being embarassed, and *mostly* managed not to hide under the sheets.

Today, she felt, was a new day. Possibly a day with a lot of reading in it. So she took her books up to the roof again, although definitely planning on avoiding the edge of the ledge this time.

She blinked at the girl on the roof when she got there, though. "Hullo?"

"Hi!" Dawn stopped mid-spin and shouted over the music, "I'm Dawn! What're you reading?"

Realizing how ridiculous this might be to other people, she paused the CD and waved again.

"Oh, the Odyssey, and some histories of the Island, and a Dorothy Sayers mystery, and, um, a rather improbably romance novel," Evie said, hiding that last one as best she could with the others. "What is this music? And hello! I'm Evie!" She waved back, and the romance novel hit the ground. "Drat."

"Wow, that's a lot," Dawn said, reaching down to pick up the fallen book. "Dropped one. And this is just a bunch of different songs--I wanted to move. Do you ever just have that happen, where you're so happy you'll burst if you don't do something?"

"Well, yes. Quite often, actually." Evie smiled brightly at her. "And I couldn't decide which book to read, so I just brought them all. Jake gave me a mix CD a week or so ago that had some music on it, but I'm very unfamiliar with most of this century's music, I'm afraid." She put some of the books down, and looked wistfully over at the CD player. "I don't suppose you have any ummmm, country and western?"

Feeling the need to just get out and *be* somewhere after a mostly-quiet post-dance weekend, Bridge heads up to the roof.

"Oh, hey Dawn!" he waves.

"Bridge! Want to dance?" She twirled in a circle, arms out, letting her hair fan out around her.

"Sure, might as well keep up the theme of dancing to old music I don't know about," Bridge says with a wink and a smirk.

She grabbed his hands and spun them both. "This would work so much better on roller skates. And you should learn! It's not always great, but it's fun."

"I have been!" Bridge says. "I've been here for a year after all, so I've heard, like, some of it. But some of it is still... my parents' music."

Evie waved to Bridge as he came onto the roof, doing a very, very modified version of the Twist. "Hullo, Bridge!"

"Hi, Evie!" Bridge waves back cheerfully.

"Do you know this song?" She twirled around and around to "I Will Survive", singing along with Gloria Gaynor. Not *too* badly, either.

"It's a little before my time," Bridge says with a laugh. "Good, though."

Door wanders up after a quite weekend spent thinking about... a lot of things really, but not least among them Anders' comments at the dance. So instead of opening the door at the top of the stairs into London, though she's tempted, she just opens the real one, and wanders out onto the roof of the dorm.

"Hello," she says, as first the music and then the sight of others lets her know she's not alone there.

"Hello! Good evening, Door!" Evie doesn't stop spinning, but she does smile on each rotation. "We're dancing to Disco!"

Door grins. "So I see!" She dances a few steps herself, though she's completely unfamiliar with the song, and knows ... perhaps not quite as little about disco music as Evie, but close.

"I've never done this before," Evie admitted, "All the dances I know have steps! Even the jitterbugging, you have a partner! But it's fun, isn't it?" She swayed then started to imitated Dawn as "YMCA" started. "Y! M! C! A!"

Door laughs. "I know this one! Someone busked to it under Kings Cross station once. He had a whole crowd of people dancing."

"Door!" Bridge grins. "Good to see you in full colour!"

Door laughs. "Does that happen a lot? I rather liked the clothes, but the lack of colour was a bit odd."

"Well, the only other time *I* know of where everything was monochrome was when the Darkness took over and destroyed everything good in the world." Bridge says. "Obviously that wasn't what happened *this* time."

Dawn waved. "Come on out, Door. We're mostly harmless."

Door laughs. "That describes a lot of things around here. I think the mostly is actually more reassuring than the harmless."
