Saturday Evening, Third Floor Common Room

"Stupid power," Dawn grumbled, lighting the candle on the table near her, then got up to turn off the television and overhead light. The power (at least in the common room) had been intermittently annoying all day, and it was back in the annoying period.

So she was now reading by candlelight and pretending she was Abe Lincoln.

Z ran into the doorframe before she actually managed to find the common room doorway. "Ow! Okay, so investing in a flashlight."

Dawn squinted into the mostly dark. "Hey. Who is that?"

One of the nice things about power outages? Darkness made it so much easier for a guy to try to sneak up on his girlfriend.

Buffy wandered in, dressed in her pjs, because, hey, it was dark. She was grumbling to herself and trying to avoid bumping into things and breaking them. "Hey, Dawn. Power out here too? No TV?"

"It's Z. Is that Dawn?" Z squinted. "This kind of sucks."

"Unless you've got a magic tv, nope," Dawn said, then snickered when she heard how slowly Buffy was moving. "Don't you have super stalker night vision or something?"

"Hey, Z," Dawn cheered up a little. "And yeah, it kind of does."

Dawn wasn't paying attention to anyone who might be sneaking up on her. Probably would have been better not to have been reading a spooky book by candlelight, though.

Molly wandered down, flashlight in hand. "People! Finally! I was beginning to think that everybody had been eaten!"

Buffy glared, making her way - slowly - to the couch. "No, not in near complete darkness. Does your Buffy have that?" she asked, intriqued. "Maybe it's something I could learn."

"Does that happen a lot?" Dawn was partly serious.

"Think it'll be over soon?" Z asked hopefully. She felt her way along the back of a couch, then flopped down. "Yay, no more running into things."

"Berthold's been under the bed all day," Buffy said quickly. "And we haven't changed his diet that much!"

Cally had stumbled down the stairs with a flashlight to where she'd heard commotion.

"You think we need to do a headcount? Just incase this is the stage one of an invasion of evil kidnapping bats with fish heads or something?"

Molly chuckled. "No, and I probably shouldn't be saying things like that here or they might just come true." She made her way over to one of the couches and sat down. "What are we doing?" she asked expectantly.

"No idea, but I hope so," she said, then moved the candle over so it was between her and Z on the table. "Congratulations for making it to the couch. And now you have an excuse not to move."

Molly laughed. "I would never suggest that Berthold ate people."

"I wasn't sure where the seeing and not seeing line was," Dawn shrugged, not that Buffy could see it. "But maybe?"

"I love having night vision," Schrodinger said from a couch he hadn't been in before.

Conner didn't have a candle, but he did have one of those compact LED flashlights that ran on lithium batteries (red LEDs, natch). It probably looked a little creepy when the red circle of light preceded him into the common room.

"Dude, this sucks."

As soon as he got close enough, Sam moved behind Dawn and slipped his arms around her. "Boo!"

Peter had pulled a small tin camping lantern out of the bottom of his pack and made his way to the Common Room.

"We need to all play hide and go seek or something."

"Cool -ow." She bumped into a table. "I should probably train more, in case there actually IS an invasion one day."

Shining a flashlight, Seely wandered into the common room. "What's up with the power?"
