Third Floor Common Room, Thursday Evening

Dawn stuck a sign on the door with some scotch tape.

APOCALYPSE CENTRAL! COME HELP RESEARCH, DROP OFF FOOD, OR CONTRIBUTE! DOUGHNUTS APPRECIATED.

Then she sat down at one of the tables, surrounded by old, thick, dusty, leather-bound books written in a variety of languages and selected one at random. It would help if Giles had given her anything to go on. What the heck counted as a minor apocalypse these days?

[ooc: Open to all. Dawn's *hugely* overreacting to the sign Giles left on Aeropaegetica. AFAIK, there is nothing coming that isn't already known about by someone--this is a non-starter, unless someone wants to throw clues in about their own upcoming plots. Otherwise, have fun making up weird prophecies.]

Evie had been on her way up to the 5th floor with some Jeff, God of Biscuits muffins, and stopped when she saw the sign.

"Can I help?" she asked the room at large. "I'm very good at research... And I have food!"

[identity profile] bookyeve.livejournal.com 2006-11-17 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
"Ooo! Some? I'm familiar with it, but not what I'd call fluent?" She sat down and put the muffins down on the coffee table. "And are we looking for anything specific? Rivers of blood, rains of fire, days of darkness?"

[identity profile] bookyeve.livejournal.com 2006-11-17 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
"What's minor, in terms of an apocalypse?" Evie said, accepting the book and carefully setting on her lap, opening it to scan the index, hoping something would jump out at her. Except not literally. "A small cloudburst of frogs?"

Evie gave her a wide-eyed look. "Really? And you've already had them? Oh, my." She bit her lip, paging through the Etruscan industriously. "'Aita and Vanth did contend with... snakes.'" She frowned. "And torches. And beds."

[identity profile] bookyeve.livejournal.com 2006-11-17 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
Evie went back and forth between the entry and the notes in the back, and said, "Deathbeds! Aita was the death god. Like Hades. So, um. I'm not clear where the torches come into it. Possibly they're driving off the snakes?" She frowned at the book, then said, "Is this rather common around here? Because no one's stopping us, and I suppose I thought they'd try."

"I should rather think so. I mean, it would be so easy to escape them. Daisies don't have feet," Evie said, distracted. She did the flipping back and forth thing again, then made a noise of disgust. "Oh, if this book were right, it already happened! In 1576. Carry the three, add in a ... yes. Lord, I hate calendar conversions. They should make a slide-rule for them."

[identity profile] bookyeve.livejournal.com 2006-11-17 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
"Sorry," Evie said apologetically. "Except I think you rather proved your point there, because now the daisies I'm imagining have teeth. Lovely. I shan't sleep tonight. Might as well have coffee." She went into the kitchen area and began to pour herself a cup. "And yes, a computer program! Ooo, you could do the Mayan calendar, and Julian and Gregorian, and the Egyptian, and possibly some of the Indian ones..."

Evie waved back with a muffin. "Poppyseed? If you're not eating it over the books? And how have you been?"

[identity profile] joxertehmighty.livejournal.com 2006-11-17 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
Joxer chuckled. "You don't have to worry about me and the books," he said. "I've been doing good. Saw a really shiny city over the weekend."

[identity profile] bookyeve.livejournal.com 2006-11-17 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
"Ooo. Las Vegas! I had heard some of the classes were going there. Was it made of gold?" Evie asked eagerly.

[identity profile] joxertehmighty.livejournal.com 2006-11-17 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
"There were things made of gold. But not the entire city," Joxer said. "And the people were really nice. Even when taking all of Conner's money in poker."

[identity profile] bookyeve.livejournal.com 2006-11-17 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
"Where did you stay? I heard it was very grand. And oh, they're always nice when they're winning. If you still have the money," Evie said, thinking of her brother. "It's later that it becomes difficult and they blackball you."

[identity profile] joxertehmighty.livejournal.com 2006-11-17 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
"Blackball?" Joxer was confused.

[identity profile] bookyeve.livejournal.com 2006-11-17 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
"Ban? Exclude. Kick out?" Evie said, looking a bit embarassed. "Especially if they think you can't pay. Or are cheating. Not that anyone I know would do that," she said loyally.

[identity profile] joxertehmighty.livejournal.com 2006-11-17 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
"Conner sure thought he was cheated," Joxer said. "But it was totally impossible. I watched the whole time."

[identity profile] bookyeve.livejournal.com 2006-11-17 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
"What happened?" Evie asked, looking interested. "And does this look like Janus or Chaos to you?" she asked, holding up the book, picture facing Joxer.

[identity profile] joxertehmighty.livejournal.com 2006-11-17 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
"He said that somehow his hand ended up with his opponent," Joxer said with a shrug. "I don't know how he could've pulled that off."

[identity profile] bookyeve.livejournal.com 2006-11-17 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
"Janus," Evie decided, then frowned at Joxer. "Magic? Do they have that in Las Vegas? Or, or, perhaps some kind of teleporter? For... cards?"
