Fourth Floor Common Room - Sunday morning

Dean was in the kitchen, humming Christmas carols absently as he cooked breakfast that consisted of the bacon and eggs and French toast alone with the usual breakfast stuff. There was also egg nog along with the usual orange juice and coffee because hey, Christmas Eve Day.

In the lounge part of the common room, Hunter was avidly stalking and pouncing on and wrestling with an empty cut down roll that wrapping paper comes on. Dean kept one eye on him as he cooked.

He didn't know how many students were still hanging around, but he figured those that were would probably appreciate food. After all they always did.

"Yeah, Sam and Dean are here with their dad, plus Alec and Seely and Chad and Pippi, so it's not like we'll be alone," Dawn took another sip of her coffee, "Plus, I promised Buffy and River I'd watch Berthold for them."

"That's the octopus thing, right?" Cally said.

"Yep. It lives under the bed and isn't supposed to have too much ice cream."

"Only in Fandom," Cally said with a chuckle. "Got plans for New Years at all?"

"Huh uh," Dawn shook her head, "although there's a plan to kiss Sam at midnight that needs to happen. You?"

"I have no plans to kiss Sam at midnight. Either Sam. Though... oh, it's that whole kiss your date and midnight thing, isn't it?" Cally said.

Dawn giggled. "Yep. So you'd probably be kissing someone who's much shorter, but no less geeky, than Sam."

"Which is good, cause that means I don't have to get on my tiptoes," Cally said.

"No, I guess you don't. Any plans for this week?"

"I gotta finish a new batch of the homebrew," Cally said. "The nightclub owner put in an order."

"Homebrew? What's that?" She added, "Oh, and congratulations!"

"Oh, I still really need to come up with a set name," Cally said. "I've got a, erm, still. On the dorm roof."

"Oh!" Dawn looked impressed. "Where'd you learn how to make your own?"

"I'm really good when I get schematics and plans," Cally said. "Plus I was going off some hints from my dad's old service stories."

"That's so cool. And it's good enough that someone wants to buy it? That's incredibly awesome, Cally."

"It makes all the investment in it worthwhile," Cally said with a smile. "Plus, it means I can actually buy Mac something for Christmas, rather than just, uhhh, hoping she didn't mind I was broke."

"What'd you get her?" Dawn looked around quickly, spotted Mac, then whispered, "I promise not to tell."

Cally made sure Mac couldn't hear, then whispered to Dawn what it was. Handwavily, as to not spoil the surprise for Mac's player, neither.

"It's super pretty."

Dawn bounced. "Oooh, it sounds it!"

Cally smiled and nodded. "Get anything special for Sam?"

Dawn blushed. "I got a little carried away, and couldn't decide on one thing."

Cally grinned. "I'm sure he'll be very happy."

"I hope so. This is my first year buying for someone I'm not related to or practically related to, y'know?"

"Yeah, this is my first time buying for a girlfriend," Cally said. "But strangely, I feel more confident about it than I did when I bought stuff for Anders."
