Okay, so it wasn't the best planned or fanciest party in the world. There weren't any streamers or banners, just a few hand-scrawled signs on printer paper reading "We're Bored, So Let's Party!" There wasn't even a theme really, but that sort of was the theme, as he and Nadia had concluded yesterday. Besides, Anders was tired and not exactly up to his usual standard of movement. Plus, they were saving all the decorations and planning for the real party, after all the new kids arrived. Oh yes. ~~Mwahahaha.~~

Small tables of snacks, food, and drinks (and of course the ubiquitous supply of cupcakes, since this was after all Anders) had been laid out on all the landings between the first and fifth floors, and the common rooms had been raided for chairs and seat cushions to form makeshift seating areas in the hallways near the stairwells.

Hey, an impromptu party was better than boredom, right?

"That sort of mood, is it?" Walter asked, putting his hand on her waist and stepping closer.

"I could stand here and wiggle my hips if you'd prefer, but I thought this would be more fun for both of us."

"If you hear me complaining about the opportunity to tango with you, I'll stand still for the mallet."

"Good boy," Nadia was tempted to try a bit of tango on the stairs, but . . . probably best not to injure herself this early in the party, so she just made sure they kept turning on the landing and avoiding the table. "Oh, I think you're rubbing off on Jamie. He offered me tea, this morning.'

"He did? See, I knew there was hope for him." Footwork, footwork, no tumbling down the stairs. "Did he offer you breakfast in bed, too?"

"No, I think he was being a bit too lazy for that. He probably only offered me tea because I threw my teal deer at him."

"I assume he deserved it?"

"He was talking in his sleep."

"What sort of things does Jamie say in his sleep?"

"That he doesn't want a shield and some girl named Layla is going to marry him."

Walter laughed. "I'd throw something at him if I had to listen to his sleep-fantasizing, too."

"I'm just glad I hadn't left anything heavy on my bed. I might have had three of him to deal with."

"Did he wake you up? 'Oh Layla, please no, I can only do that after I'm married.'"

Nadia laughed. "No, I was awake. He was just annoying."

"And he offered you tea to apologize?"

"Not so much, no."

Walter gave her a twirl to draw her back against his chest. "Are you going to tell me about it?"

"Just a dream," she said, taking the moment to kiss him quickly. "Not even one of those. Just a bad dream."

"Good that it's not one of those bad dreams, but is something going on to make you have bad dreams?"

Nadia shrugged. "I'm not sick and I haven't hit my head or anything. I think it was just . . . left over, you know? From the kidnapping."

Walter squeezed her before raising his hand to turn her back toward him and took several steps closer, keeping the edge of the landing in mind. "Come down and see me if you need someplace to sleep. At least Jamie is being sensible."

Nadia nodded. "I will, don't worry. It just . . . hit me out of nowhere this morning, you know?"

"If it's not one of those dreams...." Walter shook his head. "Just tell me if there's any way I can help."

"Not thinking about it is a big help. So, dancing."

"What a coincidence," Walter said, sliding his hand to the small of her back to support her as he leaned in.
