5th Floor Common Room, Wednesday Evening

JD was in the common room, baking cookies. Or, rather, trying to bake cookies. If he could just stop eating the dough. So far none had actually made it into the oven.

Laddie, his stuffed dog, was with him, dressed in a chef hat and holding a whisk in his mouth.

"Pleasure's all mine. So what brings you to Fandom?"

Henry's going to stick with the line he's been using all day. "Expanding my horizons. My father and I heard good things about this school." He lets out a bit of a nervous laugh. "And some not-so-good. But more good than evil." Freudian slip. "Bad! Good than bad."

[identity profile] bookwormwood.livejournal.com 2007-01-04 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
Matilda laughs at his little correction. "Well evil isn't such an out of place discription. So where do you hail from then Henry?"

Henry tries to calm down a bit, and possibly for once not suck at small talk. "I'm from London, not too far from Westminster."

"I was thinking it might be something like that, with that charming British accent you have. But I didn't want to assume of course." She smiles.

[identity profile] henryoredward.livejournal.com 2007-01-04 12:20 pm (UTC)(link)
This is a surprising notion for Henry, but not too negative a one. He grins, and says almost to himself, "I suppose I would have an accent here, wouldn't I?" Then he seems to remember from where the comment came, and refocuses on the conversation. "Thank you very much."

[identity profile] bookwormwood.livejournal.com 2007-01-04 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well I'd be British too if I was from the book. You dress pretty sharp. Might I venture a guess that you're not from this time? Since I regret to inform you that most boys now dress like slobs."

[identity profile] henryoredward.livejournal.com 2007-01-04 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Henry really hadn't been planning on saying anything, but...
He nods. "Yes. Words belong on handkerchiefs and the inside of hats, not on shirts. And pants belong around the waist."

[identity profile] bookwormwood.livejournal.com 2007-01-04 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Matilda can't restrain her laugh. "It's something you'll have to get used to I guess. When are you from then Henry?"

[identity profile] henryoredward.livejournal.com 2007-01-04 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Henry sighs. "I suppose. I do have some more modern clothing, so I won't be wearing these garments each day." He remembers the second question, and answers "And I'm from eighteen-hundred and eighty-six."

[identity profile] bookwormwood.livejournal.com 2007-01-04 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Matilda looks very surprised, "Now that's a long way! I'm surprised the culture shock hasn't killed you."

"The airplane flight here almost did." He quickly stopped thinking about the plane, and how thousands of tons of metal could possibly hang suspended in the sky without plummeting and burning-
-Right! He was not thinking about that.

[identity profile] bookwormwood.livejournal.com 2007-01-04 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well you have nothing to worry about on an airplane. They're much saffer than boats or cars. The biggest threat to you was around in your time just as much as it is now."

[identity profile] henryoredward.livejournal.com 2007-01-04 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Henry has massive doubts about that statement, but he figures that it's the kind of modern insanity that he'll have to get used to.
"Well, automobiles are much faster nowadays than they were back home. And it seems that the qualifications for operating one are more easily met than those of piloting an airplane."

[identity profile] bookwormwood.livejournal.com 2007-01-04 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, driving is much much more dangerous than flying. But you can rest assured that you won't have to drive any where on this island." She nods.

[identity profile] henryoredward.livejournal.com 2007-01-04 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Henry sighs. "That is something of a comfort."

[identity profile] bookwormwood.livejournal.com 2007-01-04 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'm sure you've been warned that around here there are stranger and more dangerous things than cars anyway."

[identity profile] henryoredward.livejournal.com 2007-01-04 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
"That is true. I'm going to be on my guard these first few weeks." Or rather, he might be staying on guard for a long time anyway.

[identity profile] bookwormwood.livejournal.com 2007-01-04 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"My advice is to always stay on your toes."
