The Roof- Thursday Night

Henry managed to make his way to the dorm roof. He'd had a busy week, and needed to relax. He pulled some sheets out of his folder, and opened up his violin case. He tightened the bow strings and rosined them up. The violin needed a serious amount of tuning, due to the climate change. But it was quickly ready. He snapped on a shoulder rest, tucked the instrument under his chin, and started to play. Mozart's first violin concerto in G minor.

Alphonse blinked. "Who?"

"I've a double now," Walter said with distinctly lacking enthusiasm. "His name is Steerpike and he looks almost exactly like me, but he's a little shorter and his hair is different."

"Huh. Well, I can safely say I haven't ran into him yet," Alphonse said. "I think I'll be able to tell just by the height difference, though."

"I gave him some of my clothes that I'd outgrown. He seems alright. Not a warm sort."

Walter rubbed the back of his neck and looked over at Alphonse. "I wanted to talk to you about something...."

"Nadia and I have been talking for months about the fact that one of us should get a single," he began, trying to feel Al out about how he'd feel about not having Walter as a roommate anymore. Then he could suggest the alternative.

Hooray! Er, I mean, Alphonse paused briefly, looking a bit disappointed. "You're moving out?"

Meanest fake roomie ever. "Well, actually, the problem is that neither of us wants to move out. We both like our roomie."

That Al looked disappointed was encouraging. "So we thought about a bit of a compromise."

That made him feel a little better. "Yeah?"

"When we first got here, there were people who had suites," Walter said. "If we take rooms next door to each other, I know a certain alchemist who could open the wall and fix it back up on moveout, so we won't have to upset the administration with the damage."

"Hm." Alphonse thought about it. "It sounds like an idea." Then he grinned. "I don't suppose this certain alchemist would be easy to get a hold of, would he?"

"I know where he lives," Walter said, grinning back. "I might be able to hold his pillow hostage."

"He rather likes that pillow and would appreciate it not being held hostage."

"I rather thought so." Yes! It sounded as though Al wouldn't balk.

"So... you'd do it?"

"Yeah, sure," Alphonse said. "I'm fine with the idea."

"Brilliant!" Walter clapped Al on the shoulder. "We'll have fun."

Poor Al, he was so outnumbered on the troublemaking front.

"Guessing we'll be jumping up two floors soon then? Seems like everyone I know is slowly making their way up there."

"Probably," Walter said. "I checked the office and I can't be sure until next week when they address housing again. And Pippi mentioned that she has two rooms of her own. If we get rooms next to hers, we could have a four room suite. Then privacy would actually be possible now and then."

"Well, whatever works," Alphonse said. "Good thing quick construction work falls under one of my specialties."

"And it's impressive, too." And Walter patted himself on the back for not even insinuating anything about magic.

Alphonse might have beamed a little at that. "Well, I'll start preparing and get a head start on things."

"Thanks, Al. I'm glad I won't have to give up my favorite meanest roommate ever."

How did Al put up with him?
