Fourth floor common room, Sunday morning

Dean was in the kitchen making breakfast for whoever happened by as he occasionally was wont to do. Hunter was with him, stalking across the back of the sofa and sniffing curiously inbetween the cushions. The tv, thankfully had been dispossessed of whatever weirdness that had had it playing pirate porn the night before and Dean had it tuned to nothing more provocative than some music videos.

All in all it was a fairly cheerful morning.

Billy shook it. "You're speaking English really well."

"Thank you," she said, looking down. "I think just the written language is different. I don't really understand how it works."

"Probably one of those weird Fandom Time/Space things. There was a kid here last semester who could barely read or write english, but his spoken language seemed to be the same as ours."

"Oh?" Katara asked. "Who was that?"

"His name was Joxer. He came from really far back in the past, before English had been invented I think."

"Is he still here?" Katara asked, eager to know another student who'd had to learn to read English who wasn't Zuko.

"Sadly no. He was uh, expelled for Dueling."

Katara blinked. "Oh," she said sadly and thoughtfully.

"Yeah it was, well we were all sad to see him go. But I found out he did quite well when he got home."
