Fourth floor common room, Sunday morning

Dean was in the kitchen making breakfast for whoever happened by as he occasionally was wont to do. Hunter was with him, stalking across the back of the sofa and sniffing curiously inbetween the cushions. The tv, thankfully had been dispossessed of whatever weirdness that had had it playing pirate porn the night before and Dean had it tuned to nothing more provocative than some music videos.

All in all it was a fairly cheerful morning.

Setsuna returned his slow smile with a grin. "You're a very smart man, then, Luke."

"I have my moments," Luke replied.

"So, this weapon of yours," Setsuna said after a moment. "'Lightsaber,' you called it? How does it work?"

Luke smiled. "It takes months of meditation to make a lightsaber," he said. "You have to find a crystal that resonates with you, then assemble the base of the weapon by hand." He closed his eyes, trying to remember what Yoda had told him. 'The crystal is the heart of the blade,' he recited. 'The heart is the crystal of the Jedi. The Jedi is the crystal of the Force. The Force is the blade of the heart. All are intertwined: The crystal, The blade, The Jedi. You are one.'"

He opened his eyes. "It's kind of a thing," he said sheepishly.

Luke would open his eyes to find Setsuna's shining as she looked at him. "That....that's incredible!" she gushed. "So, in able for the weapon to even work, the warrior must already be bound to it?"

"It works best if you are bound to it," Luke said, excited by Setsuna's enthusiasm. "In an emergency, a Jedi can use any lightsaber, and a non-Jedi could get it a lightsaber to turn on."

Setsuna drew in a deep breath to calm herself down. "You make me almost want to learn this Jedi stuff. My own philosophy when it comes to a weapon is that it's nothing if you have no connected with it. A warrior who does not know his weapon cannot truly call himself a warrior."

Luke nodded. "I made my first lightsaber over the break," he said, eyes shining. "It's...pretty amazing. Do you make your own weapons, too?"

"Oh, God," Setsuna's shoulder sunk, her voice filled with envy. "I don't have nearly enough skill in such things to actually make a sword...."

Luke shrugged off the amount of skill it took. "How do you find resonance with your weapon, then?" he asked.

Setsuna frowned, her head tilting slightly. "Resonance? You'll have to forgive me, Luke; English is not my first language, and so I'm not entirely sure I understand what you mean by that word."

Luke frowned. "Um. A sword that feels right to you," he tried. "Or can you use anything?"

"Well, I can use anything," Setsuna said, pressing her lips as she nodded, hoping she was understanding Luke's meaning. She was still feeling dazed at the whole concept of building your own weapon, "but the only sword that really feels right is Yuunagi. I've worked with her so much that I feel....we...have a very special bond. Not quite as great as if I'd built her, but still...she's...very special to me..."

Luke nodded, knowing exactly what Setsuna was talking about. "We don't name our lightsabers," he said, then frowned. "At least, I don't think we do. When did you get Yuunagi?"

How could you build a weapon and then not even name him? Setsuna tried not to focus on that.

"As soon as I was old enough to weild a weapon like her; they kept me on a katana until I was ten. So it's been almost six years. It will be six years on Wednesday." She nodded solemnly.

"Your birthday is on Wednesday?" Luke guessed. "Or is there a specific day for receiving a sword like Yuunagi?"

Setsuna nodded with a small smile. "My birthday is Wednesday. Or, at the very least, the day when we always celebrated my birthday, since no one is really sure exactly when I was born."

Luke gave her a big smile. "I know the feeling," he said. "I was adopted by my aunt and uncle. My actual birthday is...a little fuzzy."
