Second Floor Common Room - Thursday Morning (Before Classes)

The giant pillow/blanket/chair fort of awesome was still up from last night. Thankfully, someone had turned the TV off so Rescued by the Alarm wasn't on anymore. Kawalsky had fallen asleep during that really bad murder mystery weekend episode where Zeke was in on it the whole time.

Worst episode ever.

He emerged from the fort and eyed the common room kitchenette. This situation called for pancakes. He got to it, being a pancake ninja and all.

"Pancakes! Get your pancakes."

[OOC: Free pancakes! Feel free to come in or say that you stayed there the whole night in the fort. I'll be here until I fall asleep.]

"You have magical psychic powers?" Cassie asked, since it was a real possibility.

"Oh, uh...no." He frowned. "I wish I did but I was just joking. I forget that having those type of powers is actually possible around here."

"Oh, well, I am new, though," Cassie said. "So you're at least very observant?"

"Sometimes," he said, half smiling. "How's the school treating you?"

"Pretty good," Cassie admitted. "It's definitely better than back home."

"Where you from?" John asked conversationally.

"New York City," Cassie said. "One with superheroes and supervillains, though."

"Cool," he said with a small nod. "Which one of those are you? Hero or evil bad guy? Girl, I mean."

"It's really hard to tell the difference nowadays," Cassie grumbled.

That perked John's interest. "You're a little bit of both?"

"More like how can you tell who's a hero when we're all fighting each other?" Cassie said.

"Ah." John let his head rest in his hand. "Civil war type thing?"

"Got it in one," Cassie said. "But I don't want to bother you with all the stupid details. Simple answer... hero. Like Teddy, if you've met him."

"Briefly, I think," he said. "And don't worry about boring me. Boring is listening to my father talk about the schematics of a rocket."

"Well, it's just... I think I've seen you in superheroing, right?" Cassie said.

"Oh yeah, I'm definitely in there," he said and smiled. "I don't think Captain Unicorn likes me that much."

Cassie snickered. "Did you hear any of the question I asked her the other day?"

"I don't think so," he said. "I might've been trying to avoid her detention meter this time around."

"Okay," Cassie said, and realized this was waaaay too early to get emo, so she was just gonna shoot it straight. "The Senate passed a law making everyone with powers register with the government. Publicly."

"In your time, you mean?" He frowned. "That...could lead to a lot of bad things."

"That's what led to everyone fighting," Cassie said. "People who thought it was a good idea, and people who didn't."

"Huh." It almost sounded like discrimination in a way. "So, you left?"

"I kinda... got sidelined. After... switching sides. Sorta," Cassie said.

John made a face. "Which side did you fall on?"

"I... had been fighting against registration," Cassie said, hesitantly.
