5th Floor Common Room, Friday morning after third period

After class, Bel made his way back up to the fifth floor. Instead of heading to his room, he sat down on the couch in the common room, picking up the remote and turning on the TV. He flipped through the channels, idly looking for something to occupy a few hours.

Anders nodded. And started falling asleep again. Possibly tilting over in Bel's direction.

"It's my birthday today," Bel said, poking a little at Anders's shoulder to keep him from tilting over on him.

Gravity was winning out, and Anders kept tilting sideways. "Bastard. You didn't tell me earlier."

"It slipped my mind," Bel said. He dropped his voice. "And if putting your head in my lap is your idea of a birthday present, it can wait until later," he whispered.

Well, that got Anders to sit up really quickly. "I would've had time to get something nice if I'd known ahead of time," he said, in an overcompensatorily boisterous way. "No Easy-Bake Oven for you now."

"I'm sure you can whip up a treat for me," Bel said with a grin.

"Birthday cupcakes?" asked Anders, quirking one eyebrow slyly. "Or did you want me to get more ambitious?"

"Surprise me," Bel said, as close to a purr as he was willing to get in a public place.

"See, again," Anders replied with another yawn, "if I'd had more advance notice I could've come up with something awesome."

"I have faith in your talents," Bel said.

Anders smirked. "Stroke my ego some more, why don't you."

"Does it need stroking?" Bel smirked.

"All the time," drawled Anders. "The more the better, really."

"Mmm hmm," Bel said. "Well, if whatever you come up with satisfies me? There will be stroking to be had."

"Lords," Anders said, whacking Bel lightly in the arm. "So demanding."

"You don't know the half of it," Bel said with a tight smile, his mood suddenly jossed a bit by a conversation in his earlier class.

Anders glanced at him curiously. "You okay?"

"I'm fine," he said lightly. "I'll tell you about it later."

"Before or after you get your present?"

Bel smirked. "I haven't decided yet."

"Does this mean I have to promise you a present now?" asked Anders, narrowing his eyes playfully.

"I'm expecting a good one," Bel said. "A very good one."

Anders sighed and gave his best impression of being put-upon. "Oh, fine. I'll come up with something really good. On short notice, but still."

"Good," Bel murmured. "I expect to be completely satisfied."

"What else is new?" Anders said under his breath.
