5th Floor Common Room, Friday morning after third period

After class, Bel made his way back up to the fifth floor. Instead of heading to his room, he sat down on the couch in the common room, picking up the remote and turning on the TV. He flipped through the channels, idly looking for something to occupy a few hours.

"They're tools," Bel said. "But they have their amusements."

"So I take it you were a higher up demon, then?"

"Yes, I was high in the ranks."

"Interesting. Like, were you a lord and had to speak in rhyme?"

"...what?"

"Some legends hold that some demons had to speak in verse to denote rank. Like a Baron would speak in Couplets, but a Duke would speak in Sonnets."

"Not where I'm from."

"And how does one rise in the hierarchy, where you're from?"

"Following orders, making a name for yourself. Getting the attention of higher ranked demons."

"So it's not one of those cut-throat, kill the guy above you things?"

"That actually happens quite a bit as well."

"Must be dangerous to be at the top, then. What's the devil like in your world?"

"That would be me the Source. The Source of All Evil."

Schrodinger smirked. "That's what he calls himself? How pretentious."

"You wouldn't say that to his face."

"Oh, I've said it to one incarnation of the devil already. Don't see why another would be any different. No demon is the source of evil."

"Shows how much you know."

"Or how deluded you guys are. The source of evil is not a demon. That's a cheap, pathetic excuse. It's a cop-out for people who don't want to owe up to their actions. Do you want to know what the real source of all evil is?"

"I don't particularly have any interest in your opinion," Bel said, standing up. "You're not from my world. You have no idea how things work. Your words are meaningless."

"It's in here," Schrodinger said, pointing to his head. "It's in your head. It's in Phoebe's head. It's in Principal Washburne's, Vice Principal Hades', Dean the Tick's, Professor Vader's, Professor Orpheus'. It's in all of us. It's our own choice. It's the potential in all our brains. If you tell yourself otherwise, you're just trying to put your guilt onto someone else so that you don't have to live with it."

"Whatever helps you sleep at night," Bel said, walking away.

"So, your world lacks free will? Sounds like a terrible place to live. Nice to know that you can just fob off all your bad behavior on the demon!"
