5th Floor Common Room - Monday, late afternoon

Annette was laying on the couch, on her belly, ankles crossed; a pillow shoved up under her arms. She was flipping through the television channels, not really paying attention to what was on. A minute here a minute there, nothing really snapping out at her. Her mind was too preoccupied thinking about who and what she met and talked to over the weekend. It was totally...mind consuming.

Frozen pizza was in the oven cooking. She knew she could do that. Just had to take the plastic off and stick it in the oven. She forgot to read how long it took to cook though. When she could smell it good, then she would know it was done. Hopefully. Annette wasn't too bright in the kitchen department.

"Apparently with a really big acorn. I'd rather know why."

"It's painful to think about." Drunk squirrels with huge acorns. "If I ever come face to face with one again I'm going to offer it chocolate."

"Rum might work better, but let me know if that works."

"Rum?" Yeah, the radio mentions the rum all the time. "I'm going to have to acquire a bottle of that."

"It's not bad. But it's an acquired taste."

"For the squirrels. Right. I won't be drinking it, you know, unless it's just a sip...to taste it. I've never had it before. I don't think."

"Then you've got to get the good stuff. Both for squirrel-ness and first taste-ness."

"...and would you know where I can get the good stuff?"

"Well, the pirate usually keeps it on hand, or you can go to All and Sundries, they've got just about everything. Or we could go to the mainland."

"All right, I will check out one of those. Got to get some good rum, keep it in my pocketbook." She nodded, already thinking about what she was going to do tomorrow.

"If you get a smaller bottle or a flask to go with it, it'll fit in the pocket book, better. You can pretty much tell which rum on the shelf is the best by which is the most expensive. Avoid anything with a brightly colored parrot that says it's flavored with a fruit, though. They're for mixing, not sipping."

It was obvious Annette was listening intently to this. "No colored parrot, the more expensive the better. And I need a small flask. Got it."

Nadia smiled. "If you want help, I could probably come along."

"Thanks, Nadia." She said with a smile. "I would like that."

"No problem. Always willing to corrupt an innocent," she said jokingly.

Her smile fell a little and she looked down. "It's true, I am innocent or naive, however you choose to look at it, in certain things. But hopefully carrying around a bottle of rum won't influence me too bad."

Nadia frowned. "I was joking. And there's nothing wrong with being innocent. I just haven't been for so long that I forget that some people still are. Sorry."

Annette looked at Nadia, and smiled slowly. "I know you were joking. In a way, I was laughing at myself. At my old school, and over the summer, well, the finger got pointed at me a lot. Too good. Too pure...and so on. I was too naive to realize people were laughing at me behind my back. Not until later did I finally open my eyes."

She chuckled a bit, "Not that you needed to know all that. But anyway, no need to be sorry, Nadia."
