5th Floor Common Room [Evening]

After stowing Jeremiah's tank and Xander's knapsack in 227, Bridge and Xander head off in search of spaghetti. Why didn't they just use the Synthetron? Well, spaghetti's like toast. It's more fun to make it yourself.

As luck would have it, the only Common Room kitchen currently stocked with any spaghetti noodles is the one on the fifth floor. So here they are. Making dinner.

Xander wandered over, thinking he might have seen her someplace before once, seven years ago and not sure about this talking to strangers thing, but Bridge was right here, after all.

"Hi! I'm Xander. I'm almost six!" Y'know. In November.

[identity profile] bookyeve.livejournal.com 2007-02-18 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
"Hullo. I'm Evie. I'm sixteen." This was fairly simple, right? Evie hadn't been around children much since she'd been one, but so far, so good. "Do you live here on the Island?"

"Uh huh! I got a whole big apartment building that people live in!"

[identity profile] bookyeve.livejournal.com 2007-02-18 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, my, that's very impressive," Evie said seriously. "I should think it's a difficult job to do by yourself."

Xander nodded. "That's why I got an a-sis-tant." He pronounced the word very carefully. "And an assistant sistant."

[identity profile] bookyeve.livejournal.com 2007-02-18 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
"Good heavens, two people working for you, that's quite successful." Evie's relaxing a little bitm because really, this isn't so very difficult. "Congratulations. I want to be in charge of digs some day."

"You dig holes?" Xander asked. "Me an' Willow tried to did a hole to China in her backyard once but we got yelled at because Willow's mommy said there was gaslines between there and China."

[identity profile] bookyeve.livejournal.com 2007-02-18 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
"Yes, exactly!" Evie said, smiling wider. "Well, no, not gaslines, because Willow's mummy is right, that can be a problem. But graves. Very very very old ones. And ruins. Caves. Things like that."

"Oooooh." Xander thought about it. "I met a mummy once. But she wasn't Willow's. She was pretty and I showed her how to eat twinkies." He was conveniently forgetting the rest of that story, yes.

[identity profile] bookyeve.livejournal.com 2007-02-18 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
"A mummy, but not Willow's?" Evie frowned, then blinked. "Like an Egyptian mummy, not your mother? Is that what you mean? She ate twinkies?! Are you quite sure?"

"She wasn't Gypshan. She was from Peroooooooo."

[identity profile] bookyeve.livejournal.com 2007-02-18 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
"Ohhhh. Incan. Or Mayan." Evie's not quite certain if she believes half of this. And yet.... Research is research. "And she was nice? Tell me, did she have her own sarcophagus?"

[personal profile] needsaparrot 2007-02-18 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
Xander blinked. "She had pretty hair. And a box thingy inna museum to sleep in I think but that was a secret. Shh. She was staying with Buffy."

[identity profile] bookyeve.livejournal.com 2007-02-18 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
"A HA!" Evie bounced a little, then looked apologetic. "I'm sorry, that was loud. But I always wondered and now I can do more research and right, I'm sure you don't care. You're six. Museums probably bore you."

"No 'cause you get to take a lunch with chips an' fizzy pop!"

[identity profile] bookyeve.livejournal.com 2007-02-18 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh! Well then, of course you enjoy it!" Evie smiled and took a breath. "Your friend Bridge is looking after you, then? Nothing to worry about?"

[personal profile] needsaparrot 2007-02-18 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
Xander nodded enthusiastically. "M'staying with Bridge tonight!" He may have looked as if this was something akin to saying 'I'm staying on the MOON in a CHOCOLATE HOUSE.'

[identity profile] bookyeve.livejournal.com 2007-02-18 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, that *is* an adventure," Evie said, trying to remember if she ever got to stay at a friend's house when she was six. "Shall you camp on the sofa? And have cocoa?"

[personal profile] needsaparrot 2007-02-18 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
"We did that last night at my 'partment," Xander said seriously. "Bridge's room just gots chairs and beds. And a squid."

[identity profile] bookyeve.livejournal.com 2007-02-18 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
"Ooo, a squid? A real squid? Or a pretend squid, or stuffed squid?" Evie looked thoughtful. "I should like to see that, sometime."
needsaparrot: (z-wee - nose)

[personal profile] needsaparrot 2007-02-18 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
"A real squid. He's just a baby though." Xander nodded. "Bridge is takin' care of him for Cal. He's good at that. He took care of Jeremiah for me."

[identity profile] bookyeve.livejournal.com 2007-02-18 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
"And who is Jeremiah?" Evie asked. "And Cal, for that matter. Hmm. Perhaps I should get a pet."

"Jer'miah's my frog. Real, not stuff but I gots a stuffed one too. His name's Notzilla. And Cal is Callllllisto. She's our friend." His nearly-six brain wasn't quite able to process what, frankly, his twenty-six year old brain could barely process. "She went away and she's sad now."

[identity profile] bookyeve.livejournal.com 2007-02-18 05:17 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm sorry your friend is sad and went away," Evie said with sympathy. "But I'm very glad Bridge is taking care of her squid, for her." She didn't know whether to pat Xander's arm, or his head, or just nod. She settled on the last one, since really, he might think she had cooties or something. Little boys often did.
