Lucas went around and picked up the people he said he would, then headed down to the back of the dorms to wait for the others.

Irulan studied the portal, put her hand up and felt the warmth radiating from the portal. She tossed a pebble in and it vanished. "Curious."

Sokka looked at her oddly. He tossed in a pebble of his own, keeping his eyes on her. "Intrigued," he said dryly.

Irulan glanced at the boy, "Where do you suppose it went?"

"I dunno. The other side, I guess." He poked at the portal again with his stick, probing the edge of it.

"Not the spirit world, I don't think."

"Another time, perhaps?" She speculated.

"That's what he said," Sokka replied, jerking a thumb at Lucas.

He pushed the stick in farther, trying to see if he could use it to feel anything on the other side.

"Do you feel anything?"

Sokka sighed. "Yeah. A stick." He shrugged and dropped the stick so that it lay half in the portal. "Maybe Lucas's beepy thing there can tell us more?"

Irulan sighed, "I suppose."

Sure enough, Lucas was there with his beepy thing, taking readings.

"Hey, Mr. Man. What's the beepy thing say?"

Lucas rolled his eyes. "The 'beepy thing' says that the energy increases when something passes through. Then there's the increase in moving particles. You can probably feel more of a breeze when something goes through, like the rock is displacing some of the particles on the other side and sending them back through here. I can tell because they don't have the same identifying signature as the air particles that are already here."

Lucas/Technobabble OTP.

"And I can tell because they're warmer. But... That thingy doesn't tell you what's on the other side?"

Irulan listened for the assessment, she was truly curious as to where or when the pebbles ended up.

"I'll need some stronger readings before I can tell, but I'm definitely thinking it's here, but in another time."

"A temporal portal?" Irulan asked, trying out the name.

Lucas grinned. "Could be."
