Lucas went around and picked up the people he said he would, then headed down to the back of the dorms to wait for the others.

"So whatever goes through can come back. It goes both ways." He was pleased with that prospect. "Can you do that again?" he wanted to get better readings.

She nodded. "Of course." She sent the water through again, holding it there as long as possible before pulling it back towards her.

Lucas concentrated on his technobabbly device and waited for the water to come back. "The readings spike when something passes through. But there doesn't seem to be anything to indicate movement. It's like the water is still going in a direct line, not changing location, it's just," he circled around to the side of the portal, "Not now. A different time."

"You can still track the water even after it goes through?" Katara asked, trying to follow the technobabble.

"Yeah." Kind of. "It's like a shadow of the actual water, but it's there. More like an echo."
