First Floor Garage, Monday Evening

Sam was on the floor of the garage next to her swoop bike, surrounded by parts--half clean, half filthy--a rag, and assorted tools. She was currently busy filing down a part she'd designed and cast for the propulsion system, trying to smooth all the rough edges before she replaced it.

So far, it was a little better than it had been, but the process was slow-going because she had to keep stopping to pull the metal filings out of her fingertips. At least it was mind-numbing enough work that she could let her mind drift, and not think of anything; particularly not seventeen-year-old girls leading armies into battle, because that should never have happened.

"Okay, so maybe she had a point," Luke admitted. "They'd spotted our location and were about to blow our cover. But there had to be a smarter way to stop them then chasing after them."

No real doubt that Leia was a Skywalker.

"I find explosives are good for that," Sam said helpfully.

"Oooh," said Luke. "That would've been good."

"Let me know next time you're going to war, and I'll set you up," she promised, "they're probably a bit primative, as far as your weapons go, but they're reasonably effective."

Luke giggled. "Don't worry about primitive," he said. "We took out an Imperial garrison using Ewoks and logs."

"What's an Ewok?"

Luke put his hand at about waist height. "About yay tall. They look like teddy bears and will poke you with sticks if you give them attitude."

"No giving the walking teddy bears attitude, check," Sam nodded. "So, wait. Did you throw them at the bad guys?"

"No," Luke said. "They declared us part of the tribe, then declared war on the Empire on their own. We couldn't have stopped them if we'd wanted to."

"Wow. Sounds like they were good allies."

Luke nodded. "They were one hell of a diversion, that's for sure."

"So, what'd you do with the trees?" Sam asked, always happy to learn new tactics.

"They tied them between other trees with rope, then cut them when armored vehicles were coming past," Luke said, remembering a story Han had told at the victory party. "The Ewoks were also big fans of throwing things from heights."

"I see what you mean about primitive, but yay for using physics constructively," Sam grinned.

"You should've seen their air support," Luke giggled. "They had gliders."

"But hey, air support," Sam laughed as she tried to get a mental image of this battle.

"I'm almost sorry I missed it," Luke said. "I was occupied elsewhere with my father."

Talk about inheriting his mother's flair for diplomacy.

"So you missed the whole thing? Geez, I hate when that happens."

"It was a pretty big battle," Luke said. "I was on the Death Star, most of the fleet was involved in a space battle between it and Endor--the moon with the Ewoks on it, and Han and Leia were leading the commando unit down there."

"See, and now I'm boggling again over Han leading a commando unit of anything," Sam made a face, "but how did you end up separate from everyone?"

That was really Anakin's story to tell, so Luke hedged.

"We were going to take out the Emperor," he said.

Well, that had been his plan. You know, eventually.

"Okay," Sam didn't really have a clue who the Emperor was, but she could tell Luke didn't really want to talk about it. "So, is the fighting done, then?"

Luke grinned and nodded. "It's a whole new galaxy at home. The Empire doesn't work as well without an Emperor."

"So what kind of government is being put in place instead?"

"We're going to restore the Old Republic," Luke said. "Well, Leia and the other politicians are. I have to work on being a Jedi."
