2nd Floor Common room, Wednesday After Clubs

Valentine was partaking his his usual, 'hello world, I'm bored and attention deficit' pastime.
He was lounging on the common room couch, bowl of popcorn in his lap, and flipping through the channels without rhyme or reason.
His important discovery of the day was that sometimes, the dialog would piece itself together in new and amusing ways.
"Oh, Pete, I never realized that--" someone on a soap opera would croon until he switched the channel, "--the female hyena was often confused for the male because of their pseudo--" click "Oscar Mayer Weiner! Everyone would be in love with me!"
He was having a grand old time.

Valentine snorted and shrugged. "I'm not insulted. Why would I be insulted? You didn't say anything about my face looking creepy, and you didn't accuse me of being an evil being from another world. So far as people who have asked me about it thus far go, I'd have to say that you're probably the most polite thus far."
He smirked and popped a kernel of popcorn into his mouth. "Besides, so far as I'm concerned, it's everyone else here who has something the matter with their faces."

Teddy smiled. "I'm not really the best measure of what normal looks like either," He told Valentine as he changed.

"Eh?" Not that it was any more apparent than any other point in his life, but Valentine was indeed staring. And then smirking. "My, what a dashing devil you are," he observed, quite obviously impressed.

"You know, most people kinda freak a little when that happens to them," He told Valentine, chuckling a bit.

Shifting back to normal, he grabbed some more popcorn. "So, everyone where you're from have masks?"

"Everyone," Valentine agreed with a nod. "Anyone without doesn't have a proper face. Everything is quite different around here, really. The fish actually swim. That was new for me."

"What do they do then?"

"They fly, of course," Valentine said evenly. "What else would they do?"

"Swim?" Teddy replied. "What do birds do where you're from?"

"Birds?" Valentine seemed momentarily confused. "Monkeybirds? Or chickens?"

Now it was Teddy's turn to be confused. "Like chickens. What are monkeybirds?"

"Monkeybirds are flying apes. With beaks. You don't have monkeybirds here, either? How about Sphinxes?" Valentine was indeed curious about how different this place was from his home.

Teddy shook his head. "Not that I know of." He paused to think about it. "Well, it's possible, but I don't think so normally."

"Oh," Valentine looked thoughtfully at Teddy for a moment, then glanced at the screen. "But you have scorpions, hyenas, meerkats, and pastry torches?"

"Yeah," Teddy said, totally sure on that answer. "Anything else you want to know if we have here?"

"Flying giants, gryphons that riddle, beetle-cops on stilts, books that fly, towers that hop away angrily into the sunset? Giant black shadows with tentacles that turn you into a carbon statue if they touch you?"
Valentine had quite the list.

Teddy thought the list over. "No, no, no, no, one time yeah, no, and that last one sounds like it could happen."

"Ah," Valentine said, looking back toward the television. "So, basically, aside from chickens, this place is basically entirely different."

"Basically. Sorry."

"Basically." Valentine considered this for a moment more. "You apologize too much. I'm thrilled! Monkeybirds can be dangerous, it's annoying to have to net books in the library, sphinxes are hungry little buggers, and when have you ever known being turned into a carbon statue by black tentacles of death to be pleasant?"
Actually, he was grinning. "I like it here all the more, now."
