Third Floor Common Room - Thursday Morning

Katara hadn't had much sleep last night.  So after Chad came in, she migrated out to the Common Room so her lack of sleeping wouldn't bother him.  Shortly towards dawn, she fell asleep on the couch.

And woke up to find weetiny penguins staring at her.  "Awww" was the immediate reaction followed quickly by trying to entice one or two into her hand to pet.  They came willingly enough even though she didn't have any dried fish.  Which made her immediately wonder if they were hungry.  That was when the announcements came on, and, in a stunning display of hypocrisy from the girl who grew up eating penguin, Katara frowned mightily at the speaker.  "NOT FOR EATING."

So with a promise to the penguins that she'd try to get them food in a bit, Katara got up and found pen and paper.  A short but laborious struggle later with the English language later, she was searching for dried fish or something penguins might eat in the Common Room kitchen.

A sign was posted on the door.

PENGUINS
(NOT FOR EATING)

[OOC: Open as CRs are.  I'm at work so potential wee slowplay]

Mel stumbled into the common room with bedhead and wearing a bathrobe.

"Gsdlkfslfdlk. Coffee."

[identity profile] cantjossme.livejournal.com 2007-03-15 02:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Mel grunted something in return and headed over to the coffee machine. When she pulled out the hopper to put the coffee in a penguin popped it's wee tiny head out and waved at Mel.

Mel looked at the penguin.

Then around the common room where apparently there were more penguins.

And then looked at Katara with a look of "WTF?"

Neil came back through the common room after his class in the morning.

He paused as his foot almost came down on a wee!tiny penguine and he stood there for a moment, leg raised as he contemplated a safe place to put his foot down.

[identity profile] iftheseshadows.livejournal.com 2007-03-15 02:46 pm (UTC)(link)
"Morning, Katara." Neil gave the girl a rueful sort of smile and as the penguin moved out of the way he very gingerly set his foot back down on the floor.

"Shuffling, sounds like a good idea. Um, do we know how this happened? Are they someone's science experiment?"

[identity profile] cantjossme.livejournal.com 2007-03-15 04:44 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hey Neil," Mel said with a wave. "What's shaking?"

[identity profile] iftheseshadows.livejournal.com 2007-03-15 05:22 pm (UTC)(link)
"Morning, Mel." Neil said cheerfully.

"Not much, just finished with class for the day, what are you up to?"

[identity profile] tyler-gone.livejournal.com 2007-03-15 03:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Tyler roamed into the common room and looked a little dumbfounded at the penguins. Eventually a smile crept across his face.

He crouched near the couch, carefully watching the pengins.

[identity profile] tyler-gone.livejournal.com 2007-03-15 03:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Tyler gave Katara a slightly irritated glance "Course not," he said. "People eat penguins?"

A small throng of penguins spilled down the stairs and out into the common room, followed a moment later by Sokka.

"No, back DOWN the stairs," he insisted. "Down. Come on, everybody, let's go down the stairs." He started trying to shoo them back into the stairwell, but then saw Katara and her penguins.

He shrugged, sighed, and let the two hordes of birds meet and greet.

[identity profile] sarcasm-guy.livejournal.com 2007-03-15 04:42 pm (UTC)(link)
"They're not even real penguins," Sokka added. "Cute, though. There are a few sleeping on Momo Jr., and that's just ADORABLE."

Mel looked over the cup of coffee she had clutched in her hands like it was her most prized posession and smirked.

"They're freaking everywhere, aren't they?"

[identity profile] sarcasm-guy.livejournal.com 2007-03-15 04:44 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah," Sokka agreed. "These are just the ones from my room. Most of them."

Sokka shuffled down the stairs again, this time carrying an armful of Momo Jr. and three more penguins, all of which were still rather drowsy.

He dropped off the penguins on the couch and carried the chinchilla over to Katara.

"Momo Jr.," Sokka cooed to him, "this is Auntie Katara. Can you say hi to Auntie Katara?"

"He," Sokka said to Katara proudly, "is a thing called a 'chinchilla'."

As Sokka held Momo Jr. out to her, for her to hold, he yawned a cute little yawn and looked up at her drowsily.

[identity profile] sarcasm-guy.livejournal.com 2007-03-15 05:08 pm (UTC)(link)
The chinchilla yawned again and fell asleep in her arms. The three penguins from before waddled over sleepily and tried to climb on top of him.

"Well, he's not as smart," Sokka admitted. "And he doesn't fly or find food for us. But I think he's juuust as cuute!" -- he scritched Momo Jr.'s head. "Maybe even cuter."

Tori made her way into the common room after class and had to stop and stare at the sight before her. Penguins, tiny penguins. Too cute.

[OOC: Hope this is okay, was in NYC for most of the day, heh. I just couldn't resist tagging in.]

[identity profile] water-wonder.livejournal.com 2007-03-16 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
Tori waved back, grinning. "They are!" She nodded in agreement, in awe of the tiny penguins. They were just too darn cute!

[OOC: Haha, yeah. I ended up watching Smallville and Supernatural. So I am officially back!]

[identity profile] sarcasm-guy.livejournal.com 2007-03-16 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
After Sokka had gone downstairs (http://community.livejournal.com/fandomhighdorms/1034738.html?thread=85367026#t85367026), an unchaperoned Momo Jr. finally woke up and started exploring the common room.

Thanks to weeks of intensive training, he did NOT crap on the floor.

Instead, he did the backstroke in the penguins' baking pan.

[identity profile] water-wonder.livejournal.com 2007-03-16 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
Tori noted the lone chinchilla in the pan and couldn't help but laugh. He was just as adorable as the weetiny penguins.
