Monday after classes: 4th floor common room

Classes were over for the day, popcorn was popped and Blair was laying across a couch watching a marathon of Mythbusters on TV.

"Let's see if Buster survives!"

River was on her way to the fifth floor when the smell of popcorn caught her attention. She peeked inside the common room and noticed Blair on the couch. Blair had popcorn. Caught between feeling nervous about talking to him and missing him quite a lot she approached quietly, sneaking up behind the couch.

A hand appeared from behind the couch grabbing for the popcorn bowl.

Blair spied the hand out of the corner of his eye and grinned, he recognized those fingers. Catching onto the hand lightly he tugged.

"Mmmm, dismembered hands. My favorite afternoon snack."

"Daxiang baozhashi de la duzi," River muttered, letting her hand go limp. "No sharing of popcorns?" she asked from behind the couch.

"The hand talks!" Blair said, putting down the popcorn and turning so he could peer behind the couch. He smiled at River happily. "Hey there."

He pushed his feelings about missing her and wanting to hang out to the front of his mind. "Popcorn can only be shared if you come out from behind here."

"Hiding behind couches not acceptable?" she asked with mock seriousness, before a smile appeared on her face. "Missed you too." She lept on to the couch and sat down cross-legged next to him.

"Hiding behind couches is only acceptable for monsters, dustbunnies and people who are scared of the scary bits in a Mr. What episode." Blair grinned and settled next to her. "What have you been up to?"

He mimicked her pose and balanced the bowl of popcorn on their knees so they could share.

River frowned. "I... slept most of last week." She glanced nervously at Blair. "And I had an argument with Lana. Sorted now." No mentioning of violence or reaver knives. "And I showed Pippi the Acorn and we nearly crashed. Am planning redecoration." Of course, there had been spending time with Jack too, but she decided not to mention that right now. "You?"

She grabbed a handful of popcorn.

Blair studied River's face for a moment, trying to tell if she was alright. As much as he didn't want to have River's abilities, sometimes it would be helpful. "I'm glad you sorted things out with Lana and that you're not sleeping. What sort of plans do you have for the Acorn? I think it would look nice with some plants."

He shrugged and took a bite of popcorn. "I wasn't feeling so hot last week so I hung out in my room and rested. Watched a lot of daytime TV."

"Plants." River thought for a moment. "Would require installing lighting of the right wavelength for photosynthesis. Could be done. I am considering fluffy furnishings and bright colours." She smiled at Blair. "Feeling better now?"

"Bean bag chairs!" Blair said with an excited bounce, almost upsetting the popcorn. "Those would be awesome!"

"I'm feeling much better now." Blair smiled at River. "We should hang out more. I know you're with Jack now, but I'd like us still to be friends."

"Bean bags! Attached to the floor in case of barrel rolls." River threw a handful of popcorn over Blair. "I like us to be friends too. I've missed you."

"I've missed this too." Blair laughed and shook popcorn out of his hair. "Barrel rolls? Remind me to wear my helmet if I take a ride in the Acorn with you again."

"Wasn't me! Pippi's idea." River laughed too. "And the first aid landed on my leg and I was limping for two days!"

"Ouch!" Blair winced but he didn't bother checking out River's leg since she was obviously laughing. "Maybe a bolted down first aid box should be first on the list for decorations."

Whistling the theme from The Pleasant, the Mean, and the Repulsive, Billy found his way to the common room. "What's on?"

River nodded. "And I'll paint murals. What are your plans for the summer?"

"Geeky pursuit of science!" Blair cheered from where he was watching the Mythbusters setting up an elevator experiment.

"Hey River." Billy nodded. This time he had another Jimmy Buffet song ready to sing in his head.

"I'm not sure yet." Blair shrugged. "I thought about seeing if a college will let me take some courses on campus. Plus I want to go visit Ivanova for a while. How about you?"

Billy snickered. "Oh? What are they trying to find out?"

"I'm not sure exactly." Blair shrugged. "This may have something to do with jumping up as an elevator falls to save your life but I got distracted earlier by them putting a decomposing pig into a car and then trying to sell it."

Neil was after some sort of foodstuff or another...something that wasn't down on the third floor and he paused to watch the dire straits Buster was finding himself in this time.

"They actually believe that is going to work?"

"Not sure yet either. But Simon will want me to come and stay with him for a while. And I miss him." She gave Blair a crooked smile. "Last time I went back was different. I'm different. Fandom changes you."

River covered her ears with her hands, after throwing some popcorn at Billy. She did nod in greeting though.

"No, I don't think so." Blair shook his head. "Which is why Jamie's already planning on using more explosives next time."
