Buffy got to the campgrounds early, hauling two huge bags with her. She put them down by the stones of the central camp fire. She looked at it. Firewood. She needed lots of it. She headed off to gather fallen branches and similar.

Slowly everything got set up. There were camping tables with plates, cups and sticks for grilling things with. There were tables with hot dogs, peeps and other grillable things, and a separate table for drinks (so far non-alcoholic).

She set her cd-player on a flat rock, and while it looked tiny and insignificant outdoors, it would at least have music. Hopefully the random showers would stop by night fall, she thought and covered everything with plastic.

Then she walked back to the school and grabbed every umbrella and blanket she could get her hands on, and walked back, dumping everything by one of the tables. With her hands on her hips she regarded everything in satisfaction. Yes. Totally Not Prom was on!

Resting his chin as best he could on Teddy's shoulder, Chad was quiet for a bit before saying anything. "Yeah?" he asked, finally. "Was thinking of going home for a bit, too. Not Mexico home. Japan home..."

"Oh." Teddy tilted his head to accommodate Chad. "Did you-"

This was going to be weirder than he though to say. "Did you want to come to New York with me? Maybe meet my friends back home?" And Dad. Can't forget the dad.

"Did, uh...did you want me to?" Chad asked. Because he kind of did, but he felt weird about it. It suggested a certain seriousness in the relationship that Chad felt he was okay with, but wasn't sure what Teddy's thoughts were and, if they were different, than meant awkwardness and that wasn't good.

"I wouldn't ask if I didn't," Teddy replied, finding Chad's hand to lace his fingers with. Did his asking mean he didn't want to? Because of Billy maybe? Or meeting his family? "If you don't want to, it's cool," he added quickly.

"'Course I want to," Chad said, giving Teddy's hand a squeeze once their fingers were intertwined. "Would you wanna come with me to Japan?"

Would cost more, Chad knew, but he could manage it.

"Really? That'd be... pretty cool." Smooth, thy name was Teddy Altman.

"Yeah?" Pretty cool could mean a couple things, and Chad didn't want to read too much into any of them.

"Very cool," Teddy confirmed. "You have family there?"

"No," Chad answered, and since 'they're all dead' seemed like kind of a conversation killer, he decided to continue only with, "just friends. But I'd like you to meet 'em. I know Orihime wants to meet you, anyway."

"You told your friends back home about me?" Teddy asked, trying and failing to keep the little spike of happiness from coming through in his tone.

"'Course," Chad responded, with a grunt of affirmation. "Why wouldn't I?"
