Totally Not Prom! Campgrounds, Saturday Afternoon to Night

Buffy got to the campgrounds early, hauling two huge bags with her. She put them down by the stones of the central camp fire. She looked at it. Firewood. She needed lots of it. She headed off to gather fallen branches and similar.

Slowly everything got set up. There were camping tables with plates, cups and sticks for grilling things with. There were tables with hot dogs, peeps and other grillable things, and a separate table for drinks (so far non-alcoholic).

She set her cd-player on a flat rock, and while it looked tiny and insignificant outdoors, it would at least have music. Hopefully the random showers would stop by night fall, she thought and covered everything with plastic.

Then she walked back to the school and grabbed every umbrella and blanket she could get her hands on, and walked back, dumping everything by one of the tables. With her hands on her hips she regarded everything in satisfaction. Yes. Totally Not Prom was on!

"Not cool! I had just managed to get back on it!" Rikku laughed, nuzzling lightly against his hand. "I'm just sorry that I ... couldn't yet."

"If I'd pushed you, I wouldn't get to hear it at all," Jude said, lifting one shoulder slightly as he smiled.

Rikku leaned over to nuzzle his nose with hers. "No, I would've said it and thought I meant it, but ... not been sure. I just wanted to be sure, you know? It wouldn't mean anything if I wasn't."

She swallowed, hard, and kissed him lightly.

Jude kissed her softly. "You're sure now?"

Rikku nodded, leaning in to kiss him a little longer. "Yeah," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "I am. A-and you?"

"Yeah," he said, just as quietly, a smile tugging at his lips.

They were barely even dancing now, just standing together.

Rikku's heart skipped again. She didn't mind the not-dancing. She probably wasn't even aware of it. Just ... him, and them, and smiling back at him, dizzy, and easing in to press her lips on his again. And feeling like she was flying.
