Campgrounds, Sunday morning

Buffy had woken early, and decided to go down to the camp grounds to clean up from yesterday. She beamed at the thought. It had been successful! People had talked and melted peeps and danced and everything! Buffy looked down at the melted peep stains on the grilling fork and hoped it didn't petrify. She stuffed it into her bag and moved on, cleaning as she went.

"You and Dad," Jake said, his grin turning into a frown. "What, you hit your head or something?"

Alec frowned at the kid, thinking he looked way too familiar somehow. "Not lately," he said. "Who's your dad and why would I get sucked through a portal with him?"

Jake gave him a 'you're kidding, right?' look. "Dean Winchester. And probably because I got sucked through and you were coming after me." He paused. "Memory spell?"

"No?" But that'd explain why he looked familiar -- Dean's kid would probably look like he and Dean did as kids, so the fact that this kid, Dean's son, looked like Alec when he was young, wasn't so weird. "I mean, I'm pretty sure it's not. And aren't you a bit old to be Dean's kid?"

Jake shrugged. "Not so you'd notice. And hey, at least you remember Dad. That's something. You're not totally amnesia'ed."

"I remember Dean," Alec said, sort of at a loss. "And if he had a kid, I think he would've told me."

"Yeah, well you obviously have forgot about getting me," Jake pointed out logically. "Maybe the portal did it -- they can really mess with you. But don't worry, Dad'll straighten it all out. Where is he anyway?" He looked around, which incidentally let Alec get a glimpse of the back of Jake's neck.

Alec stared for much longer than it took to read the barcode, the configuration disturbing because of its implications. "Holy crap," he breathed. "Kid." Alec raised his voice, eyes narrowing as the boy turned back around to look at him. "What's your designation?"

"I'm Jake," Jake said, reminding himself that Alec wouldn't remember his name if he didn't remember him existing.

Alec stared some more. "No, kid, the barcode -- what's your designation," he repeated.

"X5-494." Jake frowned. "But Dad says I'm not a number. I'm Jake. Like you're Alec."

"Dude." Alec frowned back. "I was 494. And I'm Alec too, but that was my designation before..." He tensed slightly, suspicions growing. "You know anything about Manticore?"

Jake gave Alec a 'duh' look. "Bad dudes that make transgenics," he said. "They made you and they made me, but you escaped, and you and Dad rescued me."

"Holy crap." Alec shook his head. "Okay, what year are you from?" Time weirdness Alec could deal with - hopefully that was all this was about, though the idea of multiple hims was quickly closing in on "big deal" status.

Jake frowned. "Why, what year is this?"

"2007," Alec said. "Which, granted, isn't the one I'm used to, so it sounds like you'll be in good company. What year, kid?"

"2010, but it's different when we come to Fandom." Jake regarded him with his head cocked in a gesture that was very Deanlike. "When it was 2007 in Fandom, you and Dad were still in school."

"Yeah, exactly," Alec said, feeling relieved, in a way. "Okay, so you're Jake, from the future, and Dean is your dad and I'm Alec. We sprung you out of Manticore and... Do we go to Fandom a lot for some reason?"

"To visit Grandpa John and Grandma Zoe," Jake told him. "And Grace. Who's technically my aunt but since she's just a kid too, it's too weird calling her that. And you're my Dad too, you just don't like me calling you that so I don't."

"I am not your dad," Alec said, because that's, at least, true. "But I can find yours. Because this is really weirding me out."

"Yeah that's what you always say when I call you Dad. Well, at least until Dad -- Dean Dad -- made you stop. Said you'd give me a complex or something. He didn't know I was listening -- he forgets sometimes how good I hear." He reached out and patted Alec's arm. "Don't worry. You get used to being a parent, even if you don't like being called that. Probably a good thing anyway -- it would get confusing if you were both Dad."

"No kidding," Alec mumbled darkly. "Okay, so no calling me 'dad' still, but we should find Dean."

Jake brightened at that. "Yeah." He paused. "You think he'll make us milkshakes?"

Alec blinked and actually grinned slightly at Jake. "Yeah, I'm pretty sure he will, actually."
