"Apparently they got a replacement. So she can't be too angry with me."

"Good. That will leave Furrball free to patrol the room for Gremlins."

"I don't know, I think the gremlins prefer to leave me alone. After all, I know alllll their tricks."

"There is that. Furrball can guard Al and Jamie, then."

"Yeah." Assuming they didn't up and leave, too. "It'll give him something to do when he's not tormenting Cuddles."

"Cuddles can fend for himself. He's used to Pup, after all."

"Yeah, but Furrball is all impervious or something."

"Furrball is like something off the television."

"He really is. I lucked out to find him."

"You were both lucky. You got a guard cat. He got a pet spy."

Nadia laughed quietly. "Win-win. And hey, later he gets a best friend hellpuppy and a pet butler, too. And I'm sure Bailey was devoted to him."

"I'm sure she is and will be. I really need to teach her to speak Cat, so she can conspire with him."

"She didn't list it as one of her languages. Maybe you were waiting for her to finish learning Swedish."

"Maybe. I can understand wanting her to have more grasp of human languages first. But I'm definitely teaching her Rat. And Lobster."

Nadia laughed. "Of course. We're going to have the most multi-lingual girl in the whole world."

"I think she's smart enough to manage it. Look at her parents."

"Hm. That girl is going to rule the world some day, you know."

"Do you think she'll outlaw baths?"

"They'll be punishment. And those of us who want to be clean will start committing all sorts of crimes just to get them."

"She'll make an exception for me. She won't want to drive her dad mad... will she?"

"She might if she thinks it's for your own good,"

"We'll have to raise her properly in that case."

"Well, I'm sure we're doing our best."

"Don't we always?"

He rather liked the assumption inherent in this conversation that they'd see each other again.
