Chupacabra campfire: early Monday morning

Today was the first day of classes. Karal was quite pleased, because having nothing he needed to do felt rather odd.

Not, however, as odd as waking up to see the Valdemaran history he'd been reading nesting next to the bed. And clucking. And apparently quite determined to set on the balled up piece of paper it had found on the floor.

His inability to quite believe what he was seeing - and hearing - didn't seem to bother it.

Karal went into the common area to fetch a cup of tea and returned to find the book chicken had somehow incorporated his pillowcase into its nest. Which made it easy to scoop it up and carry it outside.

Settling it safely against a rock, he - after some fumbling - kindled a fire and sat down to watch it. "How in Vkandis' name are you making those noises? You're a book!"

[ooc: open!]

"A date?" He squeaked a little and made a face.

More shrugging. "Nobody said our priorities were in the right order."

[identity profile] sixstandingby.livejournal.com 2007-05-14 02:03 pm (UTC)(link)
And no one knew how bad he was at that, Asyr notwithstanding. He'd gotten lucky.

"Finding a date is a tradition?"

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2007-05-14 02:08 pm (UTC)(link)
"Tradition, social custom, right of passage, means of humiliating yourself," Isabel chuckled. "It's all that and more. It's also not required if it's not your thing. God knows there's plenty of stuff to do around here regardless."

[identity profile] sixstandingby.livejournal.com 2007-05-14 02:11 pm (UTC)(link)
He breathed a quiet sigh of relief. "This place is confusing."

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2007-05-14 02:15 pm (UTC)(link)
"I use the term insane a lot," she said, taking a sip of her coffee. "But compared to Roswell or Antar? This is the place I feel most at home. Where's home for you?"

[identity profile] sixstandingby.livejournal.com 2007-05-14 02:16 pm (UTC)(link)
"Tatooine," he said. "Far away. Through space."

Just to cover all bases.

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2007-05-14 02:19 pm (UTC)(link)
"Came here to get away from the sand did you?" Isabel asked with a grin.

[identity profile] sixstandingby.livejournal.com 2007-05-14 02:23 pm (UTC)(link)
"You know Tatooine?" Or better yet... "You know Luke."

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2007-05-14 02:27 pm (UTC)(link)
She nodded, "Luke and Anakin. So I've heard all about the sand. And the Hutts."

[identity profile] sixstandingby.livejournal.com 2007-05-14 02:28 pm (UTC)(link)
He made a face at the mention of the Hutts. "The Hutts are gross."

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2007-05-14 02:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"So I've heard. Giant slugs. Ick! By the way," she said, holding out her hand. "I'm Isabel, one of the old people by Fandom standards."

[identity profile] sixstandingby.livejournal.com 2007-05-14 02:40 pm (UTC)(link)
"Gavin," he said, shaking her head. "New. If it wasn't obvious."

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2007-05-14 04:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"I figured," she smiled. "I'm glad to see Fandom hasn't broken your brain yet. Or if it has, you hide it well."

[identity profile] sixstandingby.livejournal.com 2007-05-14 04:27 pm (UTC)(link)
"Nothing broken," he said with a nod. "Some of this is familiar. Other things I'm having to adjust to."

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2007-05-14 04:34 pm (UTC)(link)
"Like what?" Isabel asked curiously. "Considering where you're from I'm figuring it's not the alien slash oh my god there's other worlds thing. So is it the magic? The weirdness or the co-ed living?"

[identity profile] sixstandingby.livejournal.com 2007-05-14 04:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"The quiet," he said. "I'm not used to that."

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2007-05-14 04:46 pm (UTC)(link)
"I thought Tatooine was pretty quiet though?"

[identity profile] sixstandingby.livejournal.com 2007-05-14 04:50 pm (UTC)(link)
"Tatooine, yeah." He nodded. "I'm from Tatooine but came from Coruscant. Crowded. And at the center of a war."

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2007-05-14 05:00 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ahhh, that explains it. I've heard about Coruscant as well," she nodded. "Last summer some of the people in the flight class went there for a field trip. I can see where there's a differnce between here and there."

Isabel thought for a moment, trying to place where Gavin would be timewise. "What war is this? Still against the Emperor?"

[identity profile] sixstandingby.livejournal.com 2007-05-14 05:09 pm (UTC)(link)
"No," he said and shook his head. "No, the Emperor is gone. The Empire is still around."

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2007-05-14 05:15 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ah okay. The leader's gone but the followers remain. Is it going well at least?" She wondered if they'd have the same problem if, no, when they were able to get rid of Kivar.

[identity profile] sixstandingby.livejournal.com 2007-05-14 05:17 pm (UTC)(link)
He shrugged one shoulder, squirming a little. "In certain areas."

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2007-05-14 05:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Isabel can read body language well enough to know when someone's uncomfortable so she backed off. "Well hopefully you'll learn something here to take back with you. Although somehow I'm guessing the care of book-chickens isn't exactly it."

[identity profile] sixstandingby.livejournal.com 2007-05-14 05:23 pm (UTC)(link)
"Will the books be like this forever now?" Gavin asked, thankful for the reprieve.
