Chupacabra campfire: early Monday morning

Today was the first day of classes. Karal was quite pleased, because having nothing he needed to do felt rather odd.

Not, however, as odd as waking up to see the Valdemaran history he'd been reading nesting next to the bed. And clucking. And apparently quite determined to set on the balled up piece of paper it had found on the floor.

His inability to quite believe what he was seeing - and hearing - didn't seem to bother it.

Karal went into the common area to fetch a cup of tea and returned to find the book chicken had somehow incorporated his pillowcase into its nest. Which made it easy to scoop it up and carry it outside.

Settling it safely against a rock, he - after some fumbling - kindled a fire and sat down to watch it. "How in Vkandis' name are you making those noises? You're a book!"

[ooc: open!]

Gavin wandered out of the cabin, stretching and yawning as he did. When he saw Karal already up, he headed over and took a seat nearby.

"You sleep at all?"

"Good enough," he said, yawning. "Getting used to the noises. And did you just say your book think it's a chicken?"

His eyes widened at the clucking book. "No, I see it. Uh. Is that normal?"

The one problem with randomly signing up for workshops? It sucks when three of them are on the same day. Isabel got up early and went in search of caffiene, then took a walk around the campground.

"Now that's a perfect example of Fandom weirdness," she laughed, eyeing the book.

Isabel nodded, "Often enough. Give it twenty fours and you should be able to put it back on the bookshelf. I'm Isabel," she said, taking a seat on a log. "Welcome to Fandom."

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2007-05-14 01:46 pm (UTC)(link)
"But that's part of the fun," she laughed. "Explaining the weirdness to people that aren't here to experience it themselves. I really should got get my camera and take some pictures of this for my mom."

""Hello," Gavin said with a nod. "I don't have a clucking book yet."

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2007-05-14 01:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"No but give it enough time and your socks might wind up getting very affectionate," Isabel said mostly serious. "Or any small toys around the place could come to life. It's happened before."

He scratched his head and said, "Yeah, I'm beginning to realize that. Any reason why it happens?"

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2007-05-14 01:44 pm (UTC)(link)
"Because this place is a nexus of weird," she shrugged. "I have a theory it happens to keep us distracted enough so that we don't all band together and start plotting world domination. Well either that or to give us something interesting to write home about."

The one problem with bringing packing your trunk full of books? Is that when they all turn into chickens, the resulting clucking and packing is enough even to wake Ed up.

Which is why, after trying to shut them all carefully enough that they could hurt each other, he was out at the campfire, carrying one of his most precious books and staring at it.

"WHAT happened to our BOOKS?" he flailed as soon as he saw other people.

"Random Fandom weirdness," Isabel said, smiling a bit. "They should be fine by tomorrow."

[identity profile] im-fullmetal.livejournal.com 2007-05-14 02:30 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, but my BOOKS! They were pecking at each other!" he said, holding the one he brought outside carefully.

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2007-05-14 02:34 pm (UTC)(link)
"It happens. The best thing to do is lock them all in a closet until they go ack to being books and nothing but books again," she said. "Either that or just go with it and feed them some corn."

[identity profile] im-fullmetal.livejournal.com 2007-05-14 02:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Edward paused for a second. "Wonder what would happen to the corn after they went back to normal books."

[identity profile] im-fullmetal.livejournal.com 2007-05-14 02:36 pm (UTC)(link)
"They all think they're chickens!" Ed said, waving the arm he wasn't holding onto the chicken-book with. "My entire cubicle is filled with chicken-books who want to peck each other!"

He stared at Karal's. "Your book has an egg."

[identity profile] sixstandingby.livejournal.com 2007-05-14 02:41 pm (UTC)(link)
"This isn't normal for your world either?"

[identity profile] im-fullmetal.livejournal.com 2007-05-14 02:46 pm (UTC)(link)
"No!" Ed looked horrified. "Books shouldn't cluck! Chickens cluck! You eat chickens!"

The clucking in his room plus the early morning may have affected his brain.

[identity profile] sixstandingby.livejournal.com 2007-05-14 02:50 pm (UTC)(link)
"Maybe it's just temporary?" Gavin suggested. Ed didn't look very happy with the clucking books. "Can you still read them while they cluck?"
