Chupacabra campfire: early Monday morning

Today was the first day of classes. Karal was quite pleased, because having nothing he needed to do felt rather odd.

Not, however, as odd as waking up to see the Valdemaran history he'd been reading nesting next to the bed. And clucking. And apparently quite determined to set on the balled up piece of paper it had found on the floor.

His inability to quite believe what he was seeing - and hearing - didn't seem to bother it.

Karal went into the common area to fetch a cup of tea and returned to find the book chicken had somehow incorporated his pillowcase into its nest. Which made it easy to scoop it up and carry it outside.

Settling it safely against a rock, he - after some fumbling - kindled a fire and sat down to watch it. "How in Vkandis' name are you making those noises? You're a book!"

"Maybe it's just temporary?" Gavin suggested. Ed didn't look very happy with the clucking books. "Can you still read them while they cluck?"

"Tried and it started trying to peck me," Edward replied. "Then it flailed about -" like Ed could talk on that point "-so I didn't want to accidentally rip it up."

"Oh." He really didn't know what to do in the case of someone upset due to clucking books. "Sorry? Maybe you could feed it?"

"Maybe," Ed said, setting the book down and frowning at it as it started to peck about. "Don't really know what would happen to the corn though." He was calming down as he thought about the question. "Maybe there'd be more pages afterwards?"

"If you feed a book, it grows bigger?"

[identity profile] im-fullmetal.livejournal.com 2007-05-14 03:17 pm (UTC)(link)
"The added mass has to go somewhere, right?" Ed asked.

[identity profile] sixstandingby.livejournal.com 2007-05-14 03:22 pm (UTC)(link)
"I guess." And it was clear by his voice that he really had no clue. "What if the book doesn't like corn?"

[identity profile] im-fullmetal.livejournal.com 2007-05-14 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"Dunno," Edward said, staring at the book. "Going to avoid the question, I think."

Gavin laughed. "Somehow, I don't think clucking books will be the end of the weirdness."

"It would be okay if it weren't books," Edward said.

"I'm guessing you like books." He was the master of the obvious, he was.

Ed grinned. "A bit, yeah. Was it obvious?"

[identity profile] sixstandingby.livejournal.com 2007-05-14 04:28 pm (UTC)(link)
"Slightly." He smiled. "That's not bad that. You and Karal should talk. He likes his books too."

"His book thinks it has an egg," Edward said, shaking his head. "This school is so, so weird."

[identity profile] sixstandingby.livejournal.com 2007-05-14 04:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"The exploded school is weird?" He nodded. "Yes, it is."
