Platypus Campfire, Saturday evening

Jim was practicing shooting free throws. The fire was his basket. Marshmallows were his basketballs. He was well aware that he was basically just chucking sugar into the fire to melt, surely making a horrible mess of some sort inside all of that wood. He was curious what it would look like when all was said and done, though, so he kept shooting.

"That's okay," she said quickly.

"Are you sure? It's not a problem," Jim said.

"Really," Pam said. "It's totally fine. Somehow I'll survive."

"If you insist," Jim said. "But if you ever decide that you want to fight this injustice, I'll be there to help."

"I'm sure you'll be getting a plaque or a trophy any day now," Pam said with a nod.

"I'm hoping for a medal, personally," Jim said.

"Would you wear it if you had one?"

Pam was getting an idea.

"Of course," Jim said.

Pam nodded. "I'll see what I can do."

"Are you going to talk to the mayor about getting me a medal?" Jim asked.

"Pff. No," Pam said. "I was going to go straight to the President."

"The President of what?" Jim asked, covering his bases.

"Which President would you like for me to ask?" she asked magnanimously.

"The President of Europe?" Jim tried.

"I'll get right on that."

"You're the best," Jim said, giving an extra cheesy smile.

"You deserve it," she said, in her most sincere voice.

"Oh, I know. I also deserve one for modesty," Jim said.

"I'll get one of those, too," she decided. "Do I get a medal for doing all this running around and medal-getting for you?"

"Nope. You get a trophy," Jim said.

"Ooooooh," said Pam.

"It may look like a bowling trophy, but it's actually a person carrying the ball of helpfulness," Jim said.
