Flag Football, Camp Gym - After Workshops

This was the first ever Flag Football information session and practice.  John and Molly set up all the necessary equipment in the camp gym.  There was a handout by the door explaining what flag football was and the overall rules.

And there was Molly.

Chad rubbed the back of his neck. "So...'s this...seperate from regular cheerleading stuff? 'Cause I really wanna try the football, but if you guys need me for the cheerleading...that's cool."

He said it with a certain pouting tone that, yeah, it would be cool, but...football! There might have even been a puppy-dog quality to it.

Molly nodded. "This is separate," she said, "and right now, it is just for fun. Buffy said we could cheer for it if we want, but it wouldn't be an official cheerleading thing. So, you can choose to play, cheer or just watch." She gave him a big smile. "That answer may change if we try to become a school sport though. I'll talk to Buffy about it more before that happens though. Okay?"

"Totally want to play," Chad informed her with a nod. "But, uhhh, gotta just watch today." He pointed to his side, where the wound still was giving him trouble.

Molly gave him a concerned look. "Maybe you'll be well enough to play by next week?"

"Hope so," Chad said. "I usually heal quick, but this one must have been a little worse than normal."

Considering the fact that Chad had never been stabbed completely through before, a little worse was probably an understatement.

"Have you thought about asking Katara to try and heal you again?"

There was a long, long moment of silence. Chad didn't move, but you could almost see the mental facepalm.

"No," he admitted. "But I will."

Another pause, much shorter this time. "You don't think she'll mind, do you?"

"You're her favorite roommate!" Molly said. "She wouldn't mind at all."

Chad was about to argue that he was her only roommate, but, with cabins, that wasn't true. Although a case could be made for cabinmate vs. roommate, but he didn't want to get into it. "Yeah, I guess you're right. I'll have to track her down."

Jim raised his hand. "Since this is flag football, will you be using flags instead of pom poms?"

"Why would we use flags instead of pom poms?" Molly asked in return.

"To continue with the flag theme," Jim said. "Maybe you could cheer in semaphore."

"I don't know semaphore," Molly said. "We could give it a shot if you can teach us."

"I know that if you wave the flags really desperately it means 'help, I'm in trouble and all I have are these flags,' but that's about it," Jim said.

Molly snickered. "That isn't exactly the message we want to be sending out during a football game. I think we'll stick to pom poms."

"It's your choice," Jim said. "I think it's missing a good opportunity, though."

"Maybe if my team is losing," Molly said. "I'll just keep the flags hidden until it gets really bad."

"I'm glad to hear that. Nothing can get people rallying quite like flags. It's a fact of human nature," Jim said.
