Fourth Floor Common Room [late evening]

Aravis could, once again, not sleep. So tonight she was curled up on the couch (where she had absolutely not fallen asleep the night before) and was watching whatever had come up on the television while sipping tea and poking at a roll of something called Rolos that she'd handwavily gotten earlier, along with a heap of other candies.

She would probably welcome company. And maybe share her candy. Maybe.

"Wow, that's a cool name," Conner remarked, flashing her a cordial smile. "Yours, I mean. Not my computer's. Which . . . naming it just seemed like the thing to do."

Conner started fiddling with the Excel sheet on his screen, adding a multicolored border of cells around his data just for the hell of it. "Nice tradition, then. I'm pretty sure you're sick of answering this question, but where are you from?"

"Oh, here. Boring old Earth," Conner answered. "Reefside, California, on the other side of the country. Small town. Bizarrely large downtown district, though."

It was about on par with Conner's. How sad is that?

"Um. Maybe a little closer to Pittsburgh."

What? Pennsylvania didn't have an MLS team, so how was he supposed to know?

"I do, yeah." Conner grinned. "I missed it a lot over the winter, especially; it doesn't get anywhere near as cold there as it does here. But I'm heading back there in a few weeks so I'm not feeling really homesick, I guess."
