Gym [Wednesday Afternoon]

After finding his way to the gym, Gavin took some time to look around. It wasn't quite what he was used to but it wasn't unfamiliar and that was, at least, comforting.

He picked up a basketball and, after figuring it out it went into the hoop, passed the time doing that while he waited for Tori.

[Gavin's here for Tori but the gym is, of course, open.]

Gavin took a minute to loosen himself up a bit more, stretching muscles and tendons.

And then, he closed in quickly, taking one swing high and one swing low just to see how good a blocker she was.

Tori was great at blocking, it was one of the first things she'd learned at the Wind Academy. She used her one arm to block the high swing and her leg to stop the low swing.

Turning ever so slightly, Tori managed to keep a grip on the arm that swung high and attempted a judo throw, which would cause Gavin to flip forward to the ground, landing on his back... if it worked.

...which it did.

And he was on his back and wincing ever so slightly. "Ninja skills are kinda useful."

He clambered back to his feet, arms up and said, "You're good."

Tori saw the wince and smiled sheepishly. "They are pretty handy, yeah. You okay?"

She chuckled slightly and shrugged. "Thanks. You're not so bad yourself." She could definitely learn a thing or two from Gavin. She could clearly see that.

"Yep," he said, nodding and bouncing. He moved closer again, faking a left hook high before moving to sweep the opposite leg out from underneath her.

Which Tori went to block and too late realized her mistake. She landed on her back with a loud thud, wincing slightly.

She used her arm strength to pop back to her feet, instantly falling into a defensive stance and aiming a quick reverse roundhouse kick at Gavin's side.

"Oof," Gavin grunted, staying on his feet and using the stumbling momentum to throw a shoulder into Tori's body, trying to knock her off balance.

Tori used the momentum Gavin had given her via the shoulder throw, to somersault away from him. She was up on her feet in an instant, turning around to face him.

"No fair flipping," he said and mock pouted before breaking into a smile. "C'mon." He used a hand to gesture her closer.

"But flipping's the best part!" Tori whined, not able to hide her grin. She heeded Gavin's request throwing roundhouse kick at him, followed with a left and then right hook.

She was gauging his reflexes.

He managed to block both the kick and first hook but the second one caught him full on, spinning him around and knocking him off balance for a few moments.

Tori hadn't expected to hit him full on, whoops. But she did understand why the guys back home didn't want to fight with her most of the time.

"I'm good," he said immediately, stretching his neck. "Nice shot. You're quicker than me."

"Thanks." Tori smiled. "You've got some nice reflexes there. I really didn't think my kick would be blocked like that. Nice one."

"You got me anyway," he said, trying to get his center back. "This is why I fly ships instead of do ground assault."

Tori shrugged. "It was a lucky shot." What? It was! "Oh, you're a pilot? That's so cool!"

"Yep," he said, nodding. "X-Wings for my squadron back home."

"Oh, very cool." Tori grinned brightly. "So both you and Luke fly X-Wings. Neat. I've never seen one, but Luke showed me the shuttle he has here."

"Yep," he said. "Luke knew me when I was about nine years old. Just a child. And I knew him when he was much older than he is now."

"Oh wow." Tori hadn't realized there'd be a whole timeline difference coming into play here. "Yeah, that's quite a difference now, huh?"

"You're telling me," he said, laughing. "There's someone here who knows me in the future too. It's weird."

"That is slightly weird, yeah." Tori agreed with a nod. "But you'll get used to it after a while. I know I did." She thought of Bridge and Z and couldn't help but grin.

"I'm hoping so," Gavin said, nodding. "I don't know if I want to get used to it and I know that sounds bad. It's hard to miss people after you leave."

"No, I totally get what you mean." Tori nodded, smiling reassuringly. She was definitely going to miss this place and all the people she'd grown so close to. "It really is hard, yeah."

"Yeah." He frowned at his sudden melancholy and shook it off. "How long have you been here?"
