Gym [Wednesday Afternoon]

After finding his way to the gym, Gavin took some time to look around. It wasn't quite what he was used to but it wasn't unfamiliar and that was, at least, comforting.

He picked up a basketball and, after figuring it out it went into the hoop, passed the time doing that while he waited for Tori.

[Gavin's here for Tori but the gym is, of course, open.]

Tori made her way down to the gym, a towel and two water bottles in her hand. She was ready to go.

"Hey Gavin." Tori smiled, spotting him immediately after entering.

"Hey," he said, turning and letting the stupid basketball smack him in the shoulder. "...I'm really good at this game, can't you tell?"

"I can, yes." Tori grinned, holding back a laugh.

"Yes, yes," he said, waggling his wrists at her. "No applause now. How are you today?"

"No applause, are you sure?" Tori smirked, raising an eyebrow, amused. "I'm well, thank you. How about yourself?"

"Yes, I'm modest," he said and grinned. "I'm okay. A day without workshops is a day that's fine with me."

"Okay, that's fine." Tori chuckled. "I wholeheartedly agree with you on that." She nodded, happy to have a day with work or a workshop.

"I'm not used to all this downtime," he admitted. "I'm afraid I'll become too used to it when I get called back."

If he got called back but he didn't say that.

"I'm not either." Tori admitted. She was used to spending most of her time teaching at the Wind Ninja Academy and surfing or helping out the guys at Storm Chargers. "When you get called back?"

"Commanding officer said it would happen," Gavin said, shrugging a shoulder. "I just don't have any specific date."

"Well, hopefully it won't be until at least the end of the summer." Tori hoped. "I'd hate to see you leave so soon."

He was starting to think that way too which he couldn't allow himself to do but was doing anyway.

"Yeah." He smiled and changed the subject. "What sort of hand to hand were you trained in?"

"Well, back home I was trained at the Wind Ninja Academy." Tori explained. "So, the hand-to-hand combat I use is a variant of martial arts, the way of the ninja."

"I think you're the first ninja I've met," he said. "I don't quite know what one is."

"I was wondering if you'd met any. There's a few of us around here." Tori admitted, smiling. "Ninjas are warriors highly trained in martial arts and stealth. In ancient Japan, they were hired as assassins. But, I'm far from an assassin. At the Academy where I train, we're taught in the ways of self-defense and to protect innocent people, whenever we can." She admitted. "And to protect the city, if something or someone should choose to attack it. But, no one back home knows of our existence. I'm not really sure, what the story is for the other ninjas here, what with people coming from different times and places."

"So, it's just very specialized forms of hand to hand combat?" Gavin asked.

"Pretty much, yes." Tori nodded, with a sheepish grin. "Nothing too fancy, though. Unless I throw in my powers, which I won't today."

"What kind of powers, if I may ask?"

"Of course you may." Tori smiled warmly, happy to tell him. "I possess superhuman speed and when I want to, I can move faster than the eye can see. I can also leap higher than an average person, which is used in what's called a ninja streak. Back home, I used it to move between two places that were pretty far apart from one another." Like the Academy and the quarry. "I'm able to evade detection by normal persons and when I'm able to focus my inner energies to resist mental attacks and manipulation when I know they're coming." She paused for a moment. "Oh, and I can do this, too." A ball of water suddenly appeared hovering above her hand and she turned into a swirl, making it move around Gavin's head and back to her hand.

And that would be Gavin's jaw dropping. He's seen stuff like this but still...it doesn't get old.

"That's water," he said dumbly.

Tori chuckled a bit and nodded. "Yep." She'd gotten a few similar reactions from other people she'd shown that particular power to. "It's my main power, the ability to summon and control water at just about anywhere I might be. I don't know if you've met Katara, but she's termed me a water bender."

"I think I've met her once," Gavin said. "I didn't know she could do that with water. As for me, I have no special powers except the ability to be clumsy."

"Neither did I, until I saw her on the beach. It's pretty cool. Her water bending skills far surpass mine, that's for sure." Tori admitteed, though not minding at all. She was in awe of her friend.

Tori chuckled and shook her head. "Not everyone needs special powers to help, to be a hero."

"Guess not," he said, brightening a little. "Is there anything you wanted to start with?"

"Nope." Tori grinned, then shrugged. "I'm really up for anything, honestly. What about you? Was there something you wanted to see?"
