Third Floor Common Room, Late Sunday Evening

Rikku had no idea why she was up. She should be tired, but she wasn't. Go figure!

Luckily, her Monday class wasn't until after lunch, so it was okay if she stayed up late. She'd even remembered to bring snacks this time. Lots of sugary goodness and crunchy stuff.

The TV said it was a Movie Monster Marathon and Rikku was learning all kinds of stuff. She felt like taking notes. She'd have to ask someone later if any of these creatures were real or not. Most of them weren't anywhere in Spira, that was for sure.

Z also should have been tired, but wasn't. So the common room it was! "Hey, what're we watching?" she asked as she entered the room.

"Hey Z," Seely waved. "Men in bad rubber costumes and worse special effects."

"Awesome." Z flopped down in a chair. "Just like back home, except there it's all real."

"You really have stuff like this back home?"

"Sort of. Aliens invade every now and then." She shrugged. "What can I say? It's California."

"Ahh," Seely nodded, as if that explained everything. "I'm from Pittsburgh, myself."

Z nodded sagely. "Ah, Pittsburgh, home of the...actually I don't know what they have in Pittsburgh," she admitted.

"Steelers," Seely replied promptly. "Greatest football team ever."

"Yes, Steelers!" Z said quickly. "Home of the Steelers. I'll take your word for it, since I don't really follow sports. Despite being on the cheerleading squad."

"Definitely the best team," Seely said.

"Go them, then!" Z said enthusiastically. "So, what's new with you?"

"I had a cow in my room."

"Like an actual cow?"

"Hiya!" Rikku waved towards the screen. "Monster Movie Marathon! Lots of black and white and zombies and werewolves and I think some guy who was a vampire. Creeeeeeeepy, but I think it's all fake."

"Oh, awesome!" Z said. "Are they showing Death in a Fence?"

"Death in a ... what?" Rikku looked at her curiously. "I'm kinda new to bad movies. How do fences kill you?"

"No, no," Z explained with a laugh. "The fence doesn't kill you. Death is in the fence. It's a classic. So is Death in a Fence 2: The Fencening."

Rikku considered that for a minute. "Is Death, like, stuck in the fence or something, and can't get out? So people have to go there to die?"

Rikku: not so good with metaphors.

"No," Z said. "No, it's...telling you would spoil the plot."

"Oh," said Rikku, munching on more chips. "These movie-things are interesting. Even the bad ones are kinda good. It's almost Zen."

"Sometimes the bad ones are better than the good ones," Z said. "It's all very deep or something."

"Maybe it's just nothing can suck that hard without there being some goodness in it." Rikku considered. "No, 'cause some things just suck. I'm kinda lost on this one."

Z shrugged. "It's not supposed to make sense. It just is."

"Obviously, you shouldn't question the Zen," Rikku giggled. "That's very anti-Zen, right there."

"And being anti-Zen would be bad," Z said. "So, yeah. Just go with it?"
