Fourth Floor Common Room: Early Wednesday morning [before workshops]

Not wanting to wake Aravis if she was asleep, Karal had crept out of their room, bringing two books and his ridiculously thick (especially when you consider they were written in the Karsite version of shorthand) pile of notes with him to the common room.

There was a pot of coffee brewed, and Karal was sitting on one end of the couch, cup of coffee to hand, with the television playing quietly in the background. It had been on when he arrived, and he wasn't entirely sure how to turn it off. He occasionally glanced at it, blinking in amazement at some bit of apparent idiocy, before diving back into his notes.

Altra was sitting on top of the TV, tail hanging in front of the screen, watching Karal.

"As do I," he said, boggling a bit as he imagined the reaction of those in Karse were they to receive a printed decision. "I do not think that would go over well. They are expecting hand written parchment, so that is what they have to receive."

Charlie gave him a sympathetic look. "Doesn't the Envoy get a secretary, now that the secretary's an Envoy?"

"No," he said quitely, folding his hands. "There is just me. Which is probably best, else my secretray skills would become rusty."

"Yeah, right," Charlie said, unconvinced and a little irked on Karal's behalf. "Well. If you do need help? That isn't about Envoy stuff, like taking care of Trenor, or-- I don't know, getting tuna for Altra." She smiled at the cat. "Just let me know, okay? It's not like *I* have to write a three-page essay on anything."

"Thank you, Charlie." Altra looked approvingly at her and Karal ducked his head, quite touched by the offer. "Truly, I appreciate your generosity, and if I can think of anything, I will ask."

"Sure. You're welcome." Charlie took another sip of her coffee, and turned toward the door. "Oh! Remember to come by the store tomorrow. I've written a lot more since the last time we talked. Hopefully it'll make you laugh."

"If I can, Charlie," he said. "Though I suspect it might not be until next week."

"Too bad, then. But you'll have to take breaks, right?" Charlie grinned at Altra, and said, "Jump on his head, if he forgets to sleep!"
